Wow, this might be my new favorite bass! Squier has really been nailing it recently with their CV line and this is no exception. I love short scale basses but I think Ive only played two medium scale basses (Ibanez Mezzo and Squier Jaguar H) and both were underwhelming. This however is awesome. It takes the best parts from a short scale bass and combines it with more of the sound from a full scale bass.

Both pickups wide open sound like a Jazz bass on steroids. Still has the growl from a full scale Jazz, but with the P pickup and slightly shorter scale, its a punchier growl. If you back off the P pickup a bit, you get more of that classic Jazz sound. The really great thing about this bass is the stacked controls with dual tone knobs. Makes for a wide variety of tones that will make it hard to go back to two pickup bass with only a master tone. Mixing in the P pickup also makes the J pickup sound more full than on a traditional Jazz. The only thing I dislike is the P pickup solo, sounds awful IMO. Has that weird kinda echo-like tone Ive heard on other PJ basses before. Im wondering if that would be solved by swapping out the P pickup?

Neck is nice and comfortable, bridge is great, tuners are just fine and being a medium scale, its not as heavy as most PJ basses. Ticks many boxes for me, love it.
