I find a new bass for $50 on Rondo. A PJ in 32" scale? Woah, where is it!? Pink? Sweet! Lefty? We can fix that!

Fast forward a few days and I'm $66 dollars poorer but I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. The box was equally directed towards a unicorn obsessed 12 year old. Even the FedEx guy was laughing at me. I can't wait to play out with this beauty.

I was about to be concerned that I'm going to have to pop out the nut but I guess it was never even glued down. I'd be pissed if it didn't make my job easier. :smug:

Fit an finish is normal Rondo quality. I won't complain.

More pics? It's now strung righty .30 - .85 with Naked Strings EADG. I'll be moving or removing the knobs and possibly moving the output jack. They're partially in my arm's path.

Oh, and it doesn't have any of the crap "vintage tint" finish on the neck. It's genuine wood! YES :D

if this lefty gets flipped and actually played somewhere beyond the basement, I wanna see THOSE pics.

To see a righty with a flipped lefty has to be weirder than a lefty flipping a righty thanks to the SEA of rightys out there and the little "creek" of leftys trickling thru the world. Back in the day before I had a lot of leftys to choose from, I flipped my rightys all the time. as I got older the "cool factor" went away and the "I look like a dork" factor kicked in. Do I bring my favorite righty with me to gigs as a backup? yep..have I ever had to use it?....nope.

( especially when the 50 dollars he spent on a lefty SX is just as easy to find a righty 50.00 SX )

The cheapest non-lefty medium scale bass is a $110 SX J. I don't think I'm stealing these basses away from lefties. Let's be honest, they wouldn't be $50 if they were a big hit with anyone, even teenage girls. The whole Gypsy Rose amp kit is $90 with the lefty bass and contains the same goodies as the righty kits coming in at $120+.

Again, it's the only $50 bass they offer and the nearest righty competition comes in over $100. I just wanted a pink PJ with medium scale and a nonfinished neck. I got it and for super cheap because it was a lefty and probably an unpopular model. Yay economics! Now to move the knobs and away I go!

Oh, and I'll be sure to put up some photos when I gig it, which I will. It'll probably be between this and the Ric for the current project I'm trying to assemble.

If you really wanted to go crazy, you could get a new pickguard without the knob holes, route out the back, and install the controls on the bottom where you wont bump them. Pink knobs would hide them pretty well.

That's actually a really cool idea. I'll think about that... :D

Got any suggestions for masking a jack relocation or making it more subtle?

christw, I'm not ripping on it or you. You did say pink and new and it is what you wanted :)
it just seems to me more weird than lefty flippers to actually see a righty do it, that's what I wanted to see pics when you get it together and jam on it. I used to hear "no upper fret access", blah,blah,blah..... but it never bothered me. The funny thing is I'm an invert like Haslip and it's the LEFTY units that get the string flips :eek:

PS, as many p/j units I flipped, the knobs never got in the way. In fact on some I liked the knobs closer to me anyway :smug:

looks weird huh?, but it is my favorite righty cheap frankenbass ( yes our band has 2 leftys in it )

I realize that my tone sounded pretty defensive in that post. Didn't mean for it to sound that way.

So you keep the button on what would be the upper bout? I tried moving mine to the smaller horn (now on top) and it's neck dive city. I gotta figure this one out.

As an aside, I do miss the upper frets but I realize that I can work around it. I think it's more of a challenge to make due with less than more. It challenges me to keep away from flashy playing.

chris, I have used a neckplate attachment, small horn, ya it will dive a little and you just get used to it. ( at least I did )

do what ric5 ( i think it was him ) did on his frankenbasses add an extender off the horn which works perfectly like a spector rex. I can't find a quick pic of his mod but it works.
