NBD - My First P Bass!

Don’t forget 70’s rock music. Amazing melodic players then. The biggest thing I am trying to do differently is learning to walk. For years I have just learned songs and developed metal riffs for lack of a better term. Walking is a whole new brave world to me. Guys that are really good at it floor me.
A simple little groove would be found in War’s “Low Rider”... pick, pluck, slap, try it allSquier Classic Vibe 60s with frets freshly dressed by a local luthier, EMG Geezer pups, Fender High Mass Bridge, and TI Jazz Flats! It's a very different bass than my two Dingwall D-Birds
So now, TB, my question is what tunes should I start learning on this P with flats? I'm a death metal guy, looking forward to getting some variety in my playing. I'm starting from ground zero with jazz, funk, county, rock, blues, etc. - and I'm interested in learning as much as I can!

Beautiuos Precisionous! Hard to recocile all those genres you mentioned. Perhaps I would dig deep into Motown catalog and JJ's lines as someone else mentioned earlier. and don't look back. (180 degrees turn away from death metal etc.) You will either "get it" and be motivated or not.
I recently learned from an interview that the bass in Bowie's final album, is all P-bass with flats, pick and fingers. Sounds like pick here:
Check out any Pink Floyd, Waters used flats on damn near all of the tunes. I just can't get making all of the up grades you have done, that bass sounds great right off the rack. If you look back to back in the day, all the tone you are trying to replicate was done on bone stock basses. Just an opinion I guess.

As for tunes:
1.- Jackson 5 "Darling dear". James Jamerson (bass player).
2.- John Mayer "Moving on and getting over". Pino Palladino (bass player)
3.- Patrick Droney "Game of love". Sean Hurley (bass player).
4.- Tower of Power "What is hip". Rocco Prestia (bass player).
4.- Any song by Iron Maiden. Steve Harris (bass player).

Very nice--congrats! Great choice in mods as well. Perfect axe for exploring all the myriad genres you're interested in, and then some. Because a good P can do 'em all!
I'm the end, I'm not a player who is interested too much in exact replication - in the right ball park with my own style is how I roll.
First person I'd point to as a excellent reference is Chuck Rainey and his work with Steely Dan, the Aja album in particular.
Second John Paul Jones' work with Zeppelin, I like the Presence album, For Your Life is great fun.
Third Early Rush, Fly by night. Geddy used a Pbass in the beginning of his career.

that is precisely how someone becomes a good musician. keep broad horizons and never stop learning.
Classic vibe P basses are awesome stock, but you got some killer upgrades on that one. Congrats!! 
A PB strung with flats is good for any genre IMO. That’s what around 75% of everything ever recorded used. 
Since you’re coming out of Metal, try something completely different. Maybe something a little sparser where you’d absolutely need to make every single note count - and where tone and feel are king.
Something soulful and bluesy maybe?
Or with something to inspire you to get some funk on?
Or something jazzy but still rock. And by all means be sure to make ‘em wait till you come in on the second verse “like this man here.” Y’know - tasty!

BEAUTIFUL! Looks exactly like the bass I learned on in high school! I loved that instrument - VERY good choice on style
