A few years ago I had a very nice J bass - maple neck with pearl blocks. Trans red burst body over swamp ash black pickguard. After a while I found the pearl/maple combo to be harder to see than I wanted so I swapped it for a neck with pau ferro fretboard. That bass was the best J I've ever owned. I sometimes wish I had kept it but I'm a player, not a collector and no longer a J player.@Palomar4130...Personally, I find the lack of contrast between white pearloid blocks and maple board to be lacking....
That bass is smokin’ just the way it is.View attachment 4644696 Also my first G&L and first maple fretboard. I picked up this used G&L LB-100 today at a local shop. I’m not huge on the green but I just couldn’t get this bass out of my head. I went back 4 times and knew I would regret it if I didn’t pick it up. Feels well balanced and only 8.8lbs. The stock pickup sounds surprisingly good also.
Very nice looking bass! I actually like the green color! You don’t really see many in that color. Good for you.View attachment 4644696 Also my first G&L and first maple fretboard. The black HS matches the pickguard so I would keep it as is rather than swapping for pearl to match the inlays.
Word for word what I was going to say!! Gorgeous bass! Don't get in a hurry with mods.
These folks beat me to it...That bass is smokin’ just the way it is.
- That shade of green/teal is killer.
- The black/white/black pickguard is perfect on this bass, and ties in nicely with the black headstock.
- The understated pearl inlays look classy against the maple neck.
Well done, sir. I would not change a thing.![]()

What's the nut width? Almost looks like a Jazz-width neck and, if it is, I'ma gonna pee my pants!
Wait, too much information? OK, I take that part back...
