NBD - Never thought I'd buy an Ibanez, but ...

So I went down to GC's Outlet Store and looked around today and saw this Ibanez Artcore AGB250 on the wall. I took it down and played it, and it didn't suck at all. I wasn't going to buy it, but as I was checking out with my $5 purchase, I mentioned that I liked it to the sales woman. She ask me if I wanted to buy it, and I said, well, I like it at my price rather than what it's marked. She fiddled around on the computer for a minute and said, "OK." So now I have it (it was about half of MAP). It's very slightly shopworn, no scratches or dings, just a few swirls than can be easily buffed out. It still had the protective plastic on the pickups. The only flaw was that it was missing the rear strap button, which I have replaced with Dunlops anyway. Sooooo ... here it is - my first and only Ibanez.

So fit and finish is pretty good? I think the headstock is cool, kind of like the old Ibanez basses
years ago, Musician series I think it was. A had a friend that bought an acoustic electric guitar
From Ibanez a couple of years back while on a trip to Seoul on business. The neck was fine when
he bought it but somehow after he got it here, major warpage. Good to see that quality is getting better.
My first 5 string was an RB-885 back in the day. That one was well made, just the narrow spacing took
a lot of getting used to. Really wanted the Yamaha BB5000, but when you're just out of college, price
means a lot. Sorry for digressing.......LOL

So who steals all the rear strap buttons from the basses at GC? My Gretsch Electromatic came from the GC in Alexandria, VA. I made them find a Gretsch screw-on strap button to replace the missing one. I'm not certain, but my guess is they took one off a guitar.

Ibanez make GREAT basses. But they made one mistake -- they made their midline basses TOO good. So when they came up with a high priced model, it wasn't really all that different than a SR500.

They tend to be very clear. Great for solo chord melody stuff. I'd be very curious to hear the hollow body. I bet it speaks cleanly with a nice acoustic quality.

I've played the 4 string versions and did once consider getting a fretless one, but somebody else beat me to it--which is part of what started me down the road to getting a fretless.

Cool bass--enjoy.
