NBD - New Jack Casady color!

I tried flats on mine, (black pick guard removed) quickly went back to nickel rounds to get the growl back...rounds aren't too bright on the JC and help sustain and double stop chords (like 5ths) that sound amazing on this bass. The sound of a JC is pretty close to a P but an exalted one. JC reminds me of the original Volkswagen Bug that had one button for the spare gas tank, otherwise, simplicity itself because the design was good.

I have a set of my D’Addarios ready to go in case I have the same result. Can’t hurt to try, but I’ll be on the look out for your critique of the flats. Thanks!

Beautiful bass! Bass and girlfriend are keepers!

What do you mean by brittle, but you can't feel it when playing?

Sorry I didn’t really word that well hahaha. I mean basically when you rub your fingers on the wood of the board you can feel it doesn’t have that butter smoothness of a nice oiled rosewood. This is a lot more harsh, dry feeling. But when I’m playing it my fingers aren’t noticing the roughness of the Laurel so it’s not noticeable while playing. Actually the opposite. The neck on this is quite comfortable and solid feeling in your hands. And the tone is super vintage and smooth. So the Laurel is working well as a rosewood substitute to my ears. But when you feel it you can tell the difference.

Absolutely LOVE the color! Congrats on a keeper girlfriend and a cool bass. Get some StewMac Fretboard finishing oil and put it on that laurel and you'll probably think its rosewood, works great! ColorTone Fretboard Finishing Oil | stewmac.com

Oh awesome thanks! I have the Dunlop set that works pretty well but as it would happen, I’m running out. I’ll check out your suggestion!

Hey all. So my girlfriend went above and beyond this Christmas. I told her not to, but she was able to start a new job, while I was sitting all of 2020 out, because I’m a full time bassist. She knew it was hard for me and she definitely lifted my spirits with this one.

Ive wanted a Jack Casady for years. YEARS. But I never pulled the trigger. I saw the new Sparkling Burgundy and I was blown away. She had asked a friend of mine what to get me and he knew I was a big fan of these and the new color. Fast forward to Christmas and she brought this out with a big bow on it. I was surprised, and she definitely won best girlfriend ever for it.

First off it plays like a dream and sounds massive, yet classy and clean. It’s light, but it feels like an absolute beast when you hold it. It feels like an expensive, well crafted instrument, and as far as I can tell it 100% is. Smooth neck, perfect tuning, a vintage dream come true. The grain and finish is flawless, and boy oh boy, it’s pretty. Epiphone hit a grand slam with this guy. The ONLY thing I don’t like on this or any bass, is the Laurel board. It’s so brittle. But the good thing is you can’t tell when you’re playing and it doesn’t get in the way or feel uncomfortable. Just my opinion on the overall feel and look of it. Also, the Epiphone strings are a little rough for me. I’ll put my go to set on tomorrow and it’ll be good to go!

Anyway, I’m sure you all know these Basses are winners. So here’s some pics. Happy Holidays!

Gorgeous! One mod you might want to make out of the gate is a quick release connector on the transformer... they’re pretty famous for breaking, and Gibson will not support you when they do. Better to control the failure mode, so that it disconnects at the connector rather than breaking at the epoxy filled can.

Oh boy ok. I’ll definitely have that checked out.

Yeah - that transformer is nigh impossible to replace... I'd definitely recommend adding strain relief and moving the failure point to something not critical that you can easily control for. Once that's out of the way, you'll have a bomb-proof bass that's totally unlike anything else out there!

VERY handsome bass. That color works on this bass on so many levels.

Throw some TI flats on that baby, and you'll really hear it come to life (alternate between fingers and a pick as needed.);)
