Today's post about thinning the herd made me go shopping. Tried some cool stuff (Sire Marcus Miller basses are freakin' amazing for the dough!!). Wasn't finding anything I had to have til I looked over in the used section. I plugged this in, cause Tune gtr. tech. does not have a Canadian bricks and mortar dealer, and I've always liked their designs. I've worked on a few.
Now it gets weird, and I hope there's some Tuneys (Tuners?) out there that can help.
This model does not appear anywhere on the net that I can find. It's quite high end in that-
- Ebony fingerboard with perfectly finished stainless frets.
- Brass nut
- Real Gotoh hardware.
- I have never seen these humbucking pickups on a tune. Usually they have shiny black plastic with the tune logo.
- 3 piece maple neck.
-18V. pre-amp with 5 count em 5 circuit boards but not the DIP switch panel I'm used to seeing on Tune basses. One trim pot. (mid range freq.)
- Controls- Stacked vol. passive tone, blend, midrange, stacked bass and treble, the mystery knob- sounds like an Alembic filter (and is not the mid freq. knob)
- 35" scale.
- Compound fingerboard is almost flat at the nut, going to about a 16" radius at the 24th. fret.
- No holes drilled for strap buttons ??????
- Very good shielding, and aluminum back plate.
- 7 lbs. 4 oz. It's a featherweight, but not neck divey (hard to tell since I haven't drilled holes for straplocks yet)
- My guess is that the bass is less than a year old (original batteries, zero wear anywhere, aforementioned no holes for strap buttons)
- Not the typical Tune neck joint with the fingerboard extension.
Interestingly- The quality is right up with instruments I own that cost 15 times as much. I plugged it into a V-4B with two 15" cabs that I had already tweaked for some other basses I was playing...I played a couple of licks...SOLD!! These pickups are among the best I have tried. The neck is wide and thin and smoooooth.
I have no idea what this bass sold for new, but these are components you find on a quite costly inst. I paid bargain basement price, and they threw in a new Levy's bag.
Any help would be appreciated.

I still haven't scratched my own personal Tune itch, when I do, hoping for one of the semi-hollow fretlesses!
