NBD: P bass content

Had an audition to go to and thought to myself "This kinda band would work better with a P than a J" (any justification really :D )
And I'd had my eye on a Mex P bass in a local pawn shop for a few months, so I went in and checked it out.

It had a few minor issues where the nut had been replaced (with a Tusq nut) and left it proud of the fret board, other than that it was well setup,
very light & resonant and played nicely.

So I lowballed them and they came back at a decent price so I accepted, handed the man his money and took off home to change out the pickups to a 62ri pickup I had from another project.

Pulled the strings, pickguard off and it turns out that it had an Seymour Duncan Antiquity with the raised A poles already installed, so I closed her back up, restrung it, sorted out the nut issue, cleaner it and went off to the audition where it performed brilliantly.

You gotta be lucky sometimes I guess!

Like i have said a million times it seams a MIM is a great platform for mods to get equal to a MIA if you find a good one. I found a fairly abused one at GC a few years back and after dropping in a set of 62's a new bridge and a cooler pickguard, have not found a better sounding P bass except for maybe a vintage one and i have all of
$350 in her.

Very nice! How does the Antiquity do for reproducing that vintage tone? I've been looking at that and the Fralins lately

I've not had it side by side with anything remotely vintage, but from memory it's definitely up there.

Nice score! I've never heard the term 'proud of the fretboard'. Please educate me.

Proud, as in it stuck out past the fretboard on the side of the neck,
a quick lick with some 180 grit and 000 steel wool and it's good as new.

Very true, there's the cream and the dogs to be found in every level of instrument quality.
