Had an audition to go to and thought to myself "This kinda band would work better with a P than a J" (any justification really
)
And I'd had my eye on a Mex P bass in a local pawn shop for a few months, so I went in and checked it out.
It had a few minor issues where the nut had been replaced (with a Tusq nut) and left it proud of the fret board, other than that it was well setup,
very light & resonant and played nicely.
So I lowballed them and they came back at a decent price so I accepted, handed the man his money and took off home to change out the pickups to a 62ri pickup I had from another project.
Pulled the strings, pickguard off and it turns out that it had an Seymour Duncan Antiquity with the raised A poles already installed, so I closed her back up, restrung it, sorted out the nut issue, cleaner it and went off to the audition where it performed brilliantly.
You gotta be lucky sometimes I guess!
