NBD Peavey T-40

A buddy of mine had this come through his shop and I was able snag it! I was able to trade something I hadn't played in ages. This bass is ridiculous. There are so many tones. The neck is real chunky but very comfortable. I'm not a good judge of weight but it feels heavy but not insane. Maybe a bit heavier than my Jazz basses. The knobs are not original. Overall though, I'm pretty stoked. It plays great. Sounds great. It's been kind of a bucket list instrument for me.

Nice!!!
Im jealous, i hope one crosses my path some day. I pulled the trigger on a couple through reverb but the sellers tried to pull some BS with shipping after the deal was made so I bailed and got refunded. As of late, the prices on them are too high for me to warrant buying one or they just aren’t in good enough shape for me to want one.

Yeah, that sucks! My wife was fortunate enough to land one that was in exceptional shape. It almost looks brand new. I need to get a trussrod cover for it, however.

My first real bass was a T40. Looked just like that one. I had it a couple years and then sold it and bought a Victory Artist. Shoulda kept both of them. But I wouldn’t play them, and I’m not one for sticking them in a closet and forgetting about them.

Wicked cool factor. Who cares about knobs. Knob collectors aren’t your real friends anyway. They just pretend to be your friend so you’ll let down your guard so they can make a move for your knobs. Great looking bass. Don’t weigh it. That’s almost as weird as collecting knobs. Just saying. And bonus points for the kitty strap.
Rock the ever loving crap outta that bass.

I have a soft spot for these. First bass I ever touched was on of these in the band room at my school. Funny enough, the band directors name was Mr. Peavyhouse lol. I actually bought a 1980 in the late 90's for $150. Never gigged it, but LOVED to play it at home, and used in the studio a couple times (sitting). At that time in my life I was guilty of being all about appearance, and that was the only reason I didn't gig it. Looking back that was so stupid of me cause the weight didn't bother me and loved the way it sounded and played. I traded it in the late 2000's for a mixing board. If I still had it, I would gladly use it out.

Funny... the main reason I was interested in the T-40 was its looks. Then I discovered a versatile, great playing/sounding bass.

A nice wide strap makes these just fine. Especially for you younger guys who haven't developed back/neck problems yet... :D

I played a few back in the day, easily 11 lbs. +, so the rumors are true, but so what. It's worth it for that level of versatility. My 89' G&L L2k is similar in the range of possible tones, pretty much everything you commonly hear from one bass. The 2K is no lightweight either, 10 lbs +. I think it would wear on me these days, now that I'm a Geezer.

A couple of things….

First, shields up for the onslaught of weight jokes and comments. It’s inevitable. They can’t help themselves. They are to be pitied and sent on their way with a pat on the head.

Enjoy!
