Does anyone know if there is there a story or reason behind the chopped off PG on John Wetton's P bass? I have noticed it before but never really thought about until the context of this thread. Assuming it was for aesthetical purposes.
I vote naked, no guard with the chrome control plate. Use a sharpie to color the holes. The route is so clean on yours, I think you can go either way. (Mine's obviously not a J bass, but a Fender CS '54 style P.)
Congrats on your NBD! Looks killer without the guard, but with the black guard too.

How much more black could this be? And the answer is none, none more black.Murdered out! Had an old black plate from a long lost SX.
Sorry the pix are so big!

Ya know, that thing would look great with a Tort guard on it!For me, J's without the pickguard look funky because of the control plate. I would say yes to pickguard and as many would say, tort
Red tort would look fab on that.Black on 1 ply black, but then I saw how clean the route was..
Pickguard or no?
