I walked into my local GC to kill some time today, wasn't even thinking about buying anything, and saw this beauty stashed in a corner wearing an unbelievable price tag. I picked it up and played it for about 10 seconds, then took it to the register before they corrected the price or someone else snapped it up.

The serial number dates to January 2011, and aside from some schmutz on the fingerboard and some oxidation on the output jack, I'd be hard-pressed to tell this was an 13-year-old instrument. It's a bit heavy at 9.25 lbs but came nicely set up with newish LaBella DTFs and once you roll off the tone, you get all the Motown thump you could ever want, no need to upgrade the pickups or mess with cap values.

The rosewood fretboard needs some oil and I've got to get the gloss coat on the neck sanded down to a satin finish, but for the price of a couple tanks of gas, this is a hell of a lot of bass for the money.

Congrats, those are great basses.

Id say Smart not poor. Those first gen CV’s are some of the best P basses a man could buy

Thanks. I've wanted to add a vintage style P to my arsenal and was looking at building a parts bass, but even that would put me well over the cost I paid for this Squier. I doubt spending more money will scratch that itch any better. Even if I never do anything outside of playing it in my house with no one else listening, it feels like money well spent.

I PLAYED THAT EXACT BASS AND ALMOST BOUGHT IT! Good score my Nor-Cal brother! I ended up ordering a pink ray 4, because I want to see what this jabon body wood is all about. If I needed another p bass that one would of went home with me for sure! Glad you got it though, hit my inbox if you want to jam sometime!
