The bass looks pretty clean and ready to go, but now upon closer inspection it has a fair amount of dirt and grime that is decades old. Would you give it a thorough cleaning or leave it alone? I’m leaning towards leaving it alone. It has such great mojo and it sounds incredible.

Ditto. Much of the value, not to mention its character and its "cool", is in its history. Don't take away its history and don't take away its stories. If only it could tell you its stories, though!!

Just out of curiousity. What has led to this "fingerprints" on the pickguard, close to the neck. A new finger-technique I have to study to play Polka, the perfect muting technique leaving its traces?

Look at the picture of the original owner playing it. He played just under the neck, so that's where you would have expected his fingers might have made contact with the body

Incredible! I looked it up- adjusted for inflation comes to $3,617.66.

And nowadays you can get a playable bass for $100.00. What a time to be alive.

In Australia a new Precision depending on the model and where it’s made, will cost between $1,500 and $3,500. Of course you can buy cheaper brands but we’re comparing to a 1954 Precision.
