Great Thread! Thanks for sharing and congratulations on a lottery of a find.
I have a few vintage instruments including '63 P bass. It really motivates me to play with all that history in it. I bought it from the children of the original owner with pics as well. Here's the story thread I did back when I got it.
Another Pre CBS '63 Pbass find! Long W/ Lot of pics.
As for cleaning this jem you found, I'd spray a very limited bit of DeOxit into the pots to clean them up. I'd also steel wool any rust off the hardware and wipe it down with a rag and gun oil to prevent any degradation. Give the body and wood it a good wipe down to remove surface dirt but leave anything imbedded or hard to get off.
That's your bass now, you'll put your own wear marks on it. May the years of satisfaction it gave the previous owner be bestowed on to you good sir! Take care of er!
