NBD: Project P/J

Back from the shop today, where it was converted to a P/J. Fender MIM P body, DiMarzio P/J pups, 500k pots, standard VVT wiring, .047 orange drop, Babicz Full Contact bridge, Squier VM '70s Jazz slim neck with stock tuners. Ran it through my ToneHammer 500 and 2x112 cabs. Sounds throaty and authoritative, plays great. The neck, though a humble Squier, is spot on.

Thanks. They're D'Addario EXL170 nickel rounds. Plenty of cut with the 500k pots; I might even try some Chromes.

I have a PJ I put those Dimarzios in a few months ago, I like them a lot. How do you like them?

I like them. Plenty of output, but still nice and articulate. My pots have the audio taper, so it doesn't seem that I get much of a range of blend between the two. But what I have is all usable.

Very pretty bass! Love the black with chrome bridge and knobs. I use the same strings on my G&Ls and like them a lot.

Great job!, I'm about to starting my own P/J project...
Btw, could you please take a closer picture at the neck join?...is the gap between the P size neck pocket and J sized neck heel noticeable?..thanks in advance.

The neck fit perfectly in the pocket. There's no gap, and the mounting holes lined up exactly. My understanding is that the P and J pockets are identical.

By the way: The Squier VM 70s Jazz body that this neck came off of now sports a Warmoth jazz neck, which also fit perfectly.

Y'know I love black and chrome, can't help but wonder what a chrome split P would look like on a black on black. Very nice project.

Wow...that's really a perfect fit.
I remember watching a Booby Vega youtube video featuring his vintage P body with a vintage Jazz neck, there is a noticeable gap 3 feet away. Guess things has change since.
