while technically 31” scale, it’s actually the length of a full scale bass as the bridge is just further up the body. 24 frets is perfect for me

I had a short scale dano for a bit, sold it because the hollow Masonite body was just a little too light for me. I like a bass with heft! The neck felt great though.

£100!? Good job, that's a steal! I toyed with getting one of these recently, but in the end went for a Burns Marquee to satisfy the English shaped hole in the bass collection. I was actually put off by some online reviews which claim the Watkins has a QC issue with the ferrules, meaning that most strings won't fit the instrument. Is there any truth in that? I asked one store and the guys there said they'd never had a Watkins bass returned, so it's very unlikely to be an issue in reality.

Im yet to change the strings so I don’t know! If I had a choice I’d get a burns haha, but this was too good to pass up

Mine’s a Korean built modern Burns, so very much the budget model! It weighs an absolute tonne but the tone is really unique. The Rapier looks fantastic, though, it was a close call between the two for me.

As a general rule yes. I would suggest watching some YouTube clips on installing bass strings and you’ll find a bunch of great tips and tricks.

By the by, the issue was the nut- gave it the old superglue and baking soda treatment and feeling much better with a redone slot

Rapier’s pretty hefty too, and still a fair bit of neck dive… call it character
