A one of a kind?? (been searching the web) OLP that we got in Beijing China, it doesnt say Made in China, has a serial number, and it says signature series on the headstock. VTT control

Is that the original scratchplate?
It is a different shape from every other OLP I have seen before.

I guess it is, got it like that, sales person said its stock, however, the tort on it was a sticker type

While we are at it, I thought I'd clarify why I call it "second series".


Series 2)
Large bridge plate.
Nice round body contours.
Many black, many metallic blue finishes.
Large headstock logo.
Headstock finish to match body.
Body is basswood, at least on the coloured ones.
Necks have a shallower profile, don't feel chunky. And they vary quit a bit. My blue one was really slim in profile - still wide, as usual.
Controls switch to the more common two volumes (one for each coil, wired in parallel) and one tone.
Fingerboard usually maple.

thanks for that info. I have 3 OLP's, an MM3 and two MM2's, 2 are black the other is metallic blue. So all three must be series 2, all have maple necks. hate white pickguards so I changed them to black. The basses didn't really come alive until put GFS alnico 5's in them and installed homemade Stingray & Sabre preamps. I tweaked the preamps for more gain and now all the basses sing, incredible tone for a cheap bass. I've had 2 of them for 10 years and the finish is still good, necks are still straight. I always look for OLP's on ebay and craigslist. still the best "cheap" bass I ever bought
