The cover will be shipped with the bass and can be reinstalled.

Which one of the 4004 basses do you have? Do you have the walnut 4004ci?

Ya ... it was hard to let that one go ... I have toyed with the idea of getting another ci walnut bass and converting it to a 5er and keeping it.

What I did to the 4003sw is I removed the hardware and re-oiled it to make the body color a little richer and gave the fretboard a coat of oil and mineral spirits to protect the fretboard from finger dirt.

I have the Buy it now at $1999 ... but if someone offers me $1900 I would take it.

Quick, someone buy this before I succumb to New Years GAS.

I noticed it looked really rich compared to my 4004ci--what kind of oil do you use?

The thing about the 4004ci is that it isn't quite that 4001 aggressive sound, and for more inconspicuous needs it doesn't do Precision as well as, not surprisingly, my Precision 5. So when I want that Ric snarl I reach for a 4003s5 rather than the 4004ci, while using the P-bass much of the time. Not that the 4003sw changes anything about any of that, but it is so.....pretty.

I used Coconut oil on the body ... I re-oiled it 3 times ... and on the fretboard I used tung oil and mineral spirits to give it a harder more protective finish.

Throughout 2016 I am going to buy a new or used 4003 bass and convert it into a 5 ... so I will probably do 5 or 6 this year. I really like the new 4003s and 4003sw basses for this ... and I will probably keep one for myself.

To give your 4004 more of a 4001/4003 tone you can use over-wound single coil pickups and stacked knobs like this one here ...
