The price is what the price is...its what the market will bear. Here in Canada you can pick up a used one for between $1500 - $2000. That seems pretty reasonable to me. I know the people at Long and McQuade have told me they have no trouble selling the new ones.
I had one of those Ibanez models back in the day. They were a good bass for the price, but then so were most of their instruments (IMHO of course).

Fake anything -Rolexes, Coach bags, etc. are not substitutes for the real things. They aren’t made of the same high quality materials or with the same level of workmanship as the real, genuine products. I bet they don’t sound like a Ric either.
I can tell you firsthand that Rics aren’t overpriced. They provide you wth lasting satisfaction and they’re worth what they cost.

Ibanez makes some fine instruments, especially their own models. The bass in question is one of the Lawsuit instruments that may have rivaled US brands in quality (on a bad day), but beat them in price. Just as a Replicar 427 Cobra isn't the same as the original Shelby, these instruments aren't as collectible as the ones they're based on. They aren't bad, but not the same as the real McCoy. What matters is that you like it and saved a bundle.
Those are killer basses.
Anyway, Ricks are pretty reasonably priced for what they are. They could probably charge more and get away with it, TBH.

In the case of the Ibanez Ric, I'll have to disagree. These are extremely rare, and when priced right, move very quickly. They are very collectible. I don't currently own one. I do own a Ric. But if one of these came up, I'd be very interested.
I had one of those briefly circa 1995, the "baseball bat neck" bolt-neck model. Sounded astonishingly good with all controls full in the "both pups on" position.
Someday I might buy a Univox neck-thru, just for old times sake. I lusted after those in my youth, but could never find a used one! (In the 1970s I could never afford any sort of brand new bass, not even a Univox...)

I’m no Bill Gates, but I never thought twice about what I paid for my Ric once I got it home.
I had one from early 70's too, brand name differed but made in the same factory.
The Recording Engineer from Sony raved about how good it sounded. Fender Stainless strings and pro setup. Although, at 11lbs I had to sell it.
Honestly I prefer their old 70s instruments to what they make now.
I've spent $15 for jumbo bags of this fairly decent hot and spicy beef jerkey at Redners, but some of the seriously hot varieties on Amazon have some really crazy prices...for just a few ounces, too.I was just talking about this today. It's so good but hella expensive
