NBD! Roscoe Beck V!

Throw both pickups into single coil mode and listen to how genius Bill Lawrence was to make a five-string Jazz pickup get that close to a vintage four. Both in humbucking is obviously huskier, but this is just one example of the many huge contributions BL made to guitar and bass pickups. It's a shame that Bill's company can't sell these, bound to an exclusive agreement with FMIC. Maybe one day . . .

This. The RB V can sound just like a passive J and you can get that "magic slap tone" you only get with passive J's. And it can do a lot other other tones, too, like almost sounding as a P etc.
And you can leave your cable plugged in :)

I hadn’t tried the coil tap selection yet. Wow, great sound. The slap tone even with the flatwounds is amazing.

Funny story about leaving it plugged in. I have had no less than five people think my XVive transmitter that I leave on my Noble during set breaks is some sort of vape. I put it in my mouth while I put my bass over my shoulder, so I guess that kind of makes sense. 😂

congrats on the new to you RB V. I don't play 5ers, but my two steady gigging basses are a Lull M4V and an RB IV, both of them are outstanding instruments that have cured me of bass GAS forever! The RBs are truly a joy to play, and I love the fact that they are passive.

enjoy!

IICR, the RB didn't sell very well. Maybe because like the Victor Bailey, the RB's were too expensive for "just a Fender"?
Ditto the Dimension. Fender steps out and does something radical and people are taken aback that it's not just like a JB or a P-bass.

I go through phases where I'll gig my Dimension for many months on end. It has a great Fender sound and a good B string.

Welp. I said I wouldn’t do it. Then I did it.

A friend of mine enlisted me to sell this bass for him. Sure, no problem.

I had heard this bass live once and was impressed. I questioned why he would sell it. Just liked his Lakland more, I guess.

After he brought them over for me to take pictures (he tasked me with selling two other basses as well - MIM Geddy and a Peavey Fury V), I set them with aside. Got to the picture taking later that morning. For grins, I plugged in the Roscoe. “Wow, like that sound!”

I then looked up to see what all of the controls did. “Man, I heard these were crazy versatile, but now this makes sense!”

I plugged it in again today, this time using my headphones. Wow.

It’s currently strung with Roto flatwounds. I really want to try some rounds just to see what it sounds like.

I’m thinking this one is going to impress the blues jam crowd on Monday evening. There are gigs this week I think but will make an appearance, too!

Pics shamelessly stolen from my own FS thread!
