NBD-Sadowsky Bliss

My long awaited Sadowsky build finally arrived today, never so happy to see the FedEx man. It's an NYC 24 Fret, Quilt Maple top over a chambered Alder body. The Maple neck has an Amazon Rosewood fretboard with Abalone dots, and is the Will Lee specs (1.45" nut width) also with a 9" radius. It has a full Tigers Eye top stain (no dark burst edges) and the sides and back are a solid Dk Brown. A pair of the Sadowsky Soapbars are in the modern positions, closer to the bridge. Of course one of the benefits of an NYC is the 7.4 lb weight, an added treat.
It is as wonderful to play as it is to look at, and the tone ranges from a mellow almost P bass tone to a Jazz bass attack. Another fine example of the quality instruments made by Roger and company at Sadowsky.

Edit: Had the body listed as Ash, it's actually Alder, and still 7.40 lbs! Gotta love Sadowskys.

Well...this one stretched a bit past the original 8-10 month estimate. It ran about 17 months. They had problems with two bodies in production and in spray, and even though I was getting impatient with the delays, I'm glad they have such high standards that a bass has to be perfect or it won't go on to the next step in the build process. And I changed the radius from 12" to 9" somewhere around mid build (on the orig time). They had to start a new neck. Turns out it was worth the wait.

I'm very pleased with the weight. My Sadowsky they sold on consignment to fund this one weighed 7.45 lbs.

The Tigers Eye quilt top is one of my favorites. My last one had the burst and on the horns it was very dark at the points. We did this one without the burst so you get the full quilt showing edge to edge. As for the 9" radius, it feels a bit rounder to me, therefore easier to play. Then again, it's possible that it's just in my head. I'm sure the Will Lee neck has a lot to do with it. Mostly I did it because my other basses, for the most part, are 9 1/2" radius. Oh No...does this mean that I'll soon be swapping all of my other basses for 1.45" width necks?? Better tell Roger & crew to get busy.

7.4 pounds? Love it! Don't let it float away!

Roger's chambered ash bodies are sweet. Sonically, they have just a little "cushion/pad" on what would usually be a full-on ash attack. The end result sounds quite nice... and they're a pleasure to have strapped on for hours.

That's gorgeous. They posted it on Facebook the other day (probably right before it shopped). I have a Satin Series 24 fret, and it's the best bass I've ever played. And so light!

I just received a somewhat similar build from the shop, except it actually had a couple of additional twists. 10 months. That is far more typical.

Actually the delays kept taking it out of the production line while they had to get a new body a couple of times and re-spray. Then I changed the radius, so start all over with a new neck. If you talked to me after month 12 or so, I probably wasn't quite as understanding, but now that I have the bass it was worth it. It's amazing. And bucephylus is correct, the 10 month build time is more like it. Funny, I've bought around 6 basses direct from the Sadowsky shop, this is my 3rd custom build. The first two came in under schedule.

I wouldn't hesitate to order another bass from them or to highly recommend them to another bassist.
