NBD - shell pink CME bronco

Nice looker! Matches my friends hair (in my avatar ;))

I refinned one in Sonic Blue, a few years ago, and commissioned (Carey) Nordstrand to make a split-coil for it! You can view at post #22 ff. In retrospect - the spacing should ha been 16mm - but the 17 worked. Ya might consider this one :woot:

huh. i didn't see one of those on the nordstrand site. i'll email them. thanks!

If you ever replace the tuners, put some lollipops on there (preferably ultralites). It would look so cool.

it would, and i will!

how do you like the nordy, and did you get alnico lll or 5?

i love the nordstrands i've tried, and i found the pickup on the site. i love their description of the alnico lll sound - "Alnico III: will provide a blanket of warmth for your pickup, giving it a slightly softer character".

that sounds just up my alley!

It is Alnico 3… it sounds great! However - after trying a number of shorties - I realized they’re not for me… so I parted it out

I buy a lot of parts from Best Bass Gear… (Scott - from BBG) actually ordered it for me - but I’m sure you can go straight to Nordstrand

Awesome! I used to have access to a bronco in a long term jam/performance situation and really loved the bass. I recently got my first mustang which I also love but which is not quite so simple and fun to play as the bronco was. If I recall I put light chromes on it :D

They have upgraded the Bronco with better tuners and a 4-saddle bridge now but this seems to be from the same batch as mine I bought in 2020.

I can intonate it by tilting the saddles. The bridge is surprisingly sturdy. Tightest neck pocket I've ever seen, too. The tuners are crap and the E string is weak (dual rail HB didn't solve the issue). I don't think another pickup can save this bass because the E string weak unplugged too. I think I need to sell this bass.

I hope yours sounds better.

Nice! That's what I thought I was getting w/ my pink Bronco, which unfortunately ended up being straight up bubblegum/neon pink. I threw a tortoiseshell pickguard on it to maximize the gaudiness (and replaced the p/u w/ a Sentell) and I actually dig the look now...

the bronco is fun - when they're intonated well. many aren't.

i loved my mustangs but had ergonomic issues with them. i liked the MiM mustang sound so much that one of my black GSR100EX has a set of the pickups from it.

Yea, that is truly cool. And for just a bit over $200, I'm sorta half tempted to get one myself. But I have enough basses already. I don't need another. I don't need another. I don't ...

i had enough basses. to fit the pink bronco, we had to put the glarry in rotation around the house. i'm gonna have to sell something - we simply don't have the space LOL

this pink one was made in 2022, pre-sonic. it sure took a while to get here!

Nice bass, for pickup I would be putting a Lace hot gold sensor in there myself, would probably be very articulate and fairly low noise for single coil

it's a vintage color - i want it to have a vintage sound.

You need one of these on there:

It would be pretty woody and "vintage" sounding, or whatever that means, sorta bell-tone I guess

I Hear Ya Cakes!!!
Lord knows I don't need another SS base.

But the LE California blue Bronco and the Gretsch G2220 keeps on calling my name.
It started as a whisper but now it screaming.

However, if I did get another bass, it would probably be a Mustang,
so as you can see, I'm a total mess.

What strings are you going with?.....057912

my usuals - d'addario super light nickel rounds. may experiment later, but the strings on the bass need replacing sooner rather than later.

Im sticking with an old Lawrence L-250 and GHS precision flats on my old $35 Bronco from a thrift...i think a RW board Bronco would be next...dont much care about color TBH.

Its all about the quality of the neck wood and under 7 lbs...the rest i can deal with.

when i tried to buy a shell pink bronco from chicago music exchange a couple times before, they were sold out. i emailed them before the current batch was in stock, and they let me pre-order. the reps i talked to were nice and very helpful, and the bass arrived in perfect condition today. feels great, sounds great, is sitting in the rack next to my black bronco with tort. strings are on the way from MF.

unlike other broncos i've played, this one was nicely intonated. no other issues that i can find with a quick once-over.

this is the only time i ever bought a bass for looks - that vintage pink with the white and the maple is so nice. pickup will be upgraded at some point, possibly with a fralin.

Nice score!
Hope it makes all the bass tones you need!
