NBD - short scale sterling stingray

It’s counterintuitive but the up position is the cut . I always run mine in the down position & “the loudest” on the rotary pot as well.

Mine sounds best through my Mark Bass Berlin / NY151.

I too got mine for a steal they were first released @ my local pawn shop in brand new condition for $230 OTD.

She’s Daphne Blue with maple neck. I love this little bass. Nice companion to my 34” Ray 24 CA in GC exclusive mint green. Gotta great deal on it too for I think $349 plus tax when they first came out.
on mine, the volume in the up is the boost, and depressed is the cut. and series is rolled towards the neck, then single in the middle, and parallel when rolled toward the bridge.

what mods have you done? and are you glad you did them?
Yeah, I’m really glad I modded it. It had good bones out of the box but definitely needed some work, and I think the mods put it in a different league.

I swapped the tuners for Schaller BMs, which are a huge upgrade. I didn’t think the stock pickup was terrible, but I replaced it with a '70s-style Delano, and the difference is night and day. I also gutted the electronics and upgraded everything—CTS pots, Switchcraft jack, Sprague cap, better wiring, the works. While I was at it, I ditched the passive volume boost, which never did much for me anyway.

Where the mods really shine isn’t just tone, but in feel. It plays and responds like a much higher-end instrument. Oh, and I’d already started wearing through the printed tort pickguard, so I replaced it with WD celluloid tort. Small detail, but totally worth it—it looks way better now.

BTW, $200 for one of these is the deal of the century! With an added thumb rest no less. I've thought about doing that to mine.
