How about a Forrest Green for contrast?

Candy forrest green over chrome (candy apple red uses silver.) wew.alsacorp.com offers some incredible can chromes, so do some others. So hit the back or the front with a transparent forrest, then the chrome on the back. And then to really enhance the chrome, a big secret: back it with black!

There's also the option of putting on clear metalflake backed by a color, or use a light pearl, or a metallic paint. Or some combination of those kinds of things .

Then there's pinstriping, a whole 'nother rabbit hole! On top and then beneath for an incredible 3D effect.

Just remember that when painting the back of a clear material you have to apply everything backwards.

Apply a color, dab it with crunched up aluminum foil and then back it with a solid. Your own twist on a tort, abalone or mottled look.

Heck, just paint it the factory color, who knows?!

The whole point; don't restrict yourself to just one boring color, there's an infinite number of other options.

I recently bought two P5's. One like yours and the burst. Both are equally good. I agree, though, that lighter tuners would be beneficial. I'm keeping the tort on both basses.

Change the pick ups to a pj if anything

Not at all! I personally think the stock pickup sounds great in this bass. It's got the extra brightness you need for the low B without sounding too much like anything other than a P bass. A 5 string passive P was what I wanted and i certainly found it in this!

That pickguard is perfect. If anything else, I'd go white or mint. Pearl never came stock on any basses and it's tacky IMO.

The actual pickguard itself is a fine colour but up close does look relatively nasty. It also seems to mark really easily, it's almost soft in a way. I think when I get some blanks home I'll probably take a tort one too just to see what it looks like with a better quality tort guard but as of now I'm not convinced it's my thing, which is a shame because I usually love tort!

They really are superb basses at any price point, but when you consider they cost the same or less than the equivalent fancy Squier their value really becomes apparent very quickly. I think perhaps Yamaha is the only other manufacturer I can think of that punches this far above their weight class.

Enjoying mine especially after changing to the gotoh tuners. Color looks blue in your pictures?

I have heard this has made a massive difference. Low End Lobster made a fantastic video regarding this and testimony to this effect from other players makes you wonder why they didn't consider lighter tuners from stock considering they put Hipshots on the high end models. Even licenced Hipshots would have been an improvement! Not that there's anything wrong with the stock tuners, they work perfectly fine but they do weigh a bit on the heavy side.
