Wow, how have I never played one of these? I dont really like signature guitars or guitars with players names on them (J. Mascis JM the exception) and Ive always been more of a Squier/Fender user. Ive owned dozens of basses and played dozens more and this might be my favorite yet.

This thing is quality all around. Maple neck, rosewood board (Ive missed them) with rolled edges, bone nut, steel bridge, string thru body etc...for $399? Crazy. Thats only $100 more than Affinity Squiers run and this thing is significantly better. Nicer than any MIM Fender Ive owned or played, its darn near MIA Fender quality for 1/4th the price.

All the knobs were a turn off at first, but there are just so many ways to control the tone. Usually not an active fan, but this preamp sounds awesome and its really cool to have both passive and active options. This actually has a useable bridge tone too which is rare for a J bass IMO. Also love that its a thin body, not super heavy and great access to the upper frets is awesome. Cant say enough good things about this bass.

perfect! and it's fun when our preconceived notions/prefs change right before our eyes (and hands and ears!). your ax looks killer to me --- glad it plays! --- congratulations on your new instrument!

Yep. If you would have told me a few months ago that I’d own and love a Sire bass and Katana bass amp, I’d have said no way. Both have quickly become favorites.

Im surprised you dont see more of these to be honest, but I get why. Its the same thing I thought about them. I dont play jazz or slap, I love the Fender J sound, I dont want Marcus Miller's name on my headstock, all those knobs look confusing etc...Plus you dont see them a lot in music stores, which also makes it tough. Its remarkable that this is the ENTRY level bass. This thing is just as good, if not better than most companies mid-range $500-$800 basses and IMO, holds it own against the absurdly priced American made Fenders Ive played too.

Another thing I forgot to mention was how crisp the pickups are and how great it is to have blend and tone knobs that actually work well. With most other brands Ive owned or tried, its tone at 100%, 50% and 0%, everything in between didnt sound any different. Same with blend knobs, especially J bass. It was either both, or one or the other with very little if any differences as you sweep thru the blend. You can hear noticeable differences in the tone and blend knobs on this with each quarter turn Id say. So much so that I can just leave my amp set pretty flat and control my tone with all the bass EQ. Cant think of another bass Ive played where Ive been able to do that. Maybe I just haven't played the right ones, but I doubt they are this well made and for $400 anyway.
