NBD Squier Classic Vibe Jazz

Thought I'd better pick one of these up while I still could. Classic looks, great build quality. Serial says 2013, but there's a 2014 date stamp on the heel.

I believe these are supposed to be basswood, but it weighs 9lbs 12oz strung up, which seems odd to me. It doesn't seem to be as ding prone as my old basswood Yamaha either... Anyhow, pics.

I know the CV series get a lot of love on here, and some people go over the top with their comparisons, but the general fit, finish, feel and shielding job are miles ahead of any MIM Fender I've had (can't speak for the Player Series).

I hope the 2019 CVs from Indonesia turn out to be nearly as good, that Daphne Blue model is still calling my name...

Congratulations dude! We should join the club.
Got 4 basses: 2 basswood, 1 agathis, and 1 that I don't know (a Cort with a transluscent red finish from 1997, what could it be?). My agathis is the lightest, the 2 basswood are the heaviest, the unknown is in the middle. To me basswood is heavy, does ring super cool, but YES @4sight it dings super easily, be careful, buddy!

Trust me, my previous few months old Fender Player P (sold )still can't get match with Squier CV60P quality, especially fret work and nut slot cut.
The Player P neck profile like slimmer CV50P neck version, but still fatter than CV P neck.
Like my earlier mention, the CVP neck are wider nut version of CV J neck. Comfort and smooth.

As nice as the bridge is, the whole hi-mass thing is more of a 70s vibe. I know the bridge holes don't line up with standard Fender compatible drop ins - how far off are the screw holes? Total fill/drill required? Tempted to go with a threaded saddle replacement.
Yes the screw holes are wider apart than standard Fender spec. BUT! I just installed an AllParts Omega Bass bridge which is a LQ BadAssII clone and thus has the Fender spec holes. I was still able to install the bridge on my CV60JB using its original screws which are a bit thinner and basswood is softer than let's say ash or alder. So yeah. it can be done but the holes will not align and thus the crews will go in at an angle - but it can be done.

beautiful classic, congrats! we've had one sitting locally for a bit @ $200 but I prefer PJs like my VM.
You're reminding me of a mod-projekt I had in mind a couple years ago. I was seriously tempted to grab a CV '60s Jazz and re-routing it into a P/J using a CV '70s Precision pickup (to keep everything "in the family" ;)) and a Reggie Hamilton-sig pickguard for the positioning and routing template.

Basswood is not always light. I had one of those jazzes too for a while and it was also a bit on the heavy side.

Congratulations anyway, those basses are very good, not only "for the money".

Agreed. I've owned several MIA Jazz Basses over the years and the one I have will hold it's own against any of them.

And as for weight FWIW mine is 9lbs 5ozs and my Matt Freeman PBass is about the same so they are not all that light.
