NBD: Squier CV 50s P

Lol. It seemed pretty important to you in your post. I am just saying, swapping a cup shaped object for another cup shaped object isn’t that far to travel.

This medium doesn’t convey emotion well, and you gave me a chuckle this morning. For that I thank you and wish you a happy one.

Edit: WAIT! You’re right, it looks like a satellite dish! Here’s mine. Look at it! It’s hideous. View attachment 4688203
That's nice... which model is that?

Shielding tape job looks perfect.
Looks like no melting going on with that silicone insulation.
I crank the iron up to 700 or 800F for soldering to the pot cases.

Nice clean work. :thumbsup: . . :bassist:
The silicone insulation is top drawer, gets hot enough to burn your fingers (don't ask me how I know this) but it just will not melt. I bought 25 feet each of red and black, enough for a lifetime of rewire jobs.

There's a lot of George in the Jimi room. Sweet little spot.

@ChickWithaRic - bass looks great!

2 questions for you lovers of the CV 50's P bass:

1. Can anyone tell me if the peghead holes for this bass are the same size as the gotoh 17.6 mm bushings used n both the tuners used by the OP and the Gotoh Resolite GB5640 tuners? I just bought a 50's P CV new neck and I am hoping to install a set of Gotoh Resolite GB640 tuners I already have without having to ream out the holes :>)

2. Is the shape a C, modern C or chunky C? I'm replacing an Allparts TBRO neck on a parts 50's P which is a U shape and way to full and chunky for me. I can't find any 1st fret 12th fret thickness measurements to compare with the Allparts so I took a chance on it!

thanks!

The Gotoh bushings are 11/16", which is nominally the same size as Fender uses. They are designed to be interchangeable with Fender. They should be a good tight press fit. I didn't change the bushings, I just used the Squier ones, they fit the Gotohs perfectly and so I can't offer any personal experience. They are **supposed** to fit a Fender hole.

Fender lists these necks as a "C" shape. I just went to measure 1st and 12th fret thicknesses but my digital caliper has a dead battery. Let's just say, I have hands on the small side, and I find it very comfortable to play.

HaHa...

George and Ricky Ricardo were the reason why I wanted to play guitar... Actually it was Ricky Ricardo that got me into it with that song Similau he played on I Love Lucy... I used to raid my dad's pomade and my mom made me a couple of little suits and I would wear them to school in 2nd grade.... total Ricky Ricardo identity crisis at the age of 8.... But George and Eddie VH were nice enough to drag into a new identity crisis phase by the time I was in junior high.... Now I'm dealing with a mid-life crisis of drooling over every left hand jazz bass I see.... It never friggin ends... Thank god my wife controls the money. lol
