NBD Squier Sonic P

Got this during the holiday sale at Fender, wasn’t really in the market for another bass, but thanks to everyone here at TB saying how Squier has really upped their game, and how, after all, I really “needed” some type of P bass, I just couldn’t resist.

Anyway, the bass arrived in perfect condition, even the box was pretty much unscathed. The bass itself is quite impressive for the small amount of money paid. Very nice, narrow neck, smooth fret ends, tuners feel solid and smooth, no problems tuning it up to standard. The finish is blemish free and has a nice gloss to it, the neck fits in the pocket very well, I would call it an excellent fit. I actually really like the color more than I figured I would.

I’ve only played it for a short time, but it sounds fantastic though my little 1x10 no name combo at low volume, haven’t tried it through headphones yet.

All in all I’m extremely happy with it and can’t wait to spend some more time on it. I’ll probably put flats on it at some point. Shout out to Fender shipping and FedEx for getting it most of the way across the country quickly and damage free!

Or simply loosen the strings and do it now. The stock Fender roundwounds are very robust strings that should be able to handle this just fine without breaking.

So, how much setup did it take? My cousin brought one of those to me a few days ago and it was a train wreck. It looked nice but everything was off. Took me a couple of hours to get it close after first ditching the usual junk original strings. He was happy with the final setup but, I hope it stays put?

My favorite color that I thought really popped USED TO BE mettallic Tangarine.... That thing should really glow under the lights...

Did it come with a radiation suit? ;)

So far I haven’t had any issues with playability. Just spent a couple hours with it, and I’m happy with string height. E and D string were slightly sharp at the twelfth fret, so I need to adjust it a bit, but nothing serious. Neck is good and straight. It’s actually set up better than the last few guitars and basses Ive bought from sweetwater. I had never bought anything directly from Fender before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect in playability right out of the box, but I’ve been impressed with it so far.

It kinda washes out under the LEDs in my guitar room, especially if the blue light.

I always try to somewhat match the instrument with a strap, and that’s proven to be a bit of a challenge so far. Ordered a nice cloth strap that looked really close in color on the website, but when it arrived, it’s quite a bit more yellow than I expected, so I’m thinking of getting some green fabric dye and going that route.

Very cool bass. i just bought mine in 2 tone sunburst. they just received it at the music shop i was in and i asked if i could try it. it was perfect from the beginning. now i wonder,i was looking on ebay for a black or tortoise pickguard. will it fit the mex fender pbass pickguards? cause thats only i find

It's never a 100% guarantee that any pickguard will fit any bass especially with Squire because they are made at different factories. So there could be differences in screw hole spacing. In the case of this yellow bass that I have. Any one of the pickguards that I show in that picture would have fit with no issues. All the screw holes would line up. The pickguards I show in the picture are a mixture of USA and Mexican pickguards.
