NBD: Stingray 5

I’ve been building a lineup of workhorse basses. I have a Fender P and a Fender J. What completes the trifecta? Stingray, of course.

I’ve been through a couple of these SR5s and this one is really nice. Best action of any I’ve ever played. The neck is super smooth. And it’s the most lightweight of any I’ve ever played without sacrificing tone.

I picked up a vintage pearl guard from Pickguard Heaven to add a little bling & tie in that beautiful roasted maple board. It also gets me a little closer to this look. I love the vibe and feel.

I think I may be going through a phase. I just bought a new car and it’s a black and white Bronco. The guy at the dealership called it the tuxedo package. This bass sort of mirrors it.

I love it! Pre Special in black with maple - a winning combination!
The only thing I would put is a plain white, possibly a relic pickguard...but that's really very subjective.

These are such great basses, one of the very few brands I feel like nothing needs modding or swapping.

Except for flush mount strap locks lol

Nice! I just picked up an SBMM Ray35 and it is pretty good. I'm replacing the heavy tuners to get the neck weight under control. The bass has a brightness that takes a bit of tweaking to tame. Other than that, nice.

I bet the USA version is nice!

Yeah, it is. The only thing I changed was that guard.

Gorgeous! But I already said that in another thread. And I play my Stingrays through and I play my Stingrays through a D-800+ as well, but through Barefaced cabinets. The Subway cabs didn’t exist yet when I bought them but, if they had, I likely would have ended up with a pair of Subway 15’s.

Interesting hearing you compare your bass to the look of your new car. I also got a new car recently that’s a white pearl finish with blacked out badging, grill, trim, and wheels. I wonder if I’d also be able to sell my Watchful and Inquisitive Financial Executive (W.I.F.E) on the idea of buying a new matching bass…
