NBD! SX 5 String Jazz

As promised i would write about my SX 5 string Jazz that i ordered last week. This is my first 5'er btw :D

Now the first thing i noticed is that FedEx seemed to take relatively good care of it with the exception being the box being slightly torn on the front but other than that no major dents or tears. As you see in the pictures Rondomusic seemed to pack it pretty well. Since taking those pics i put on some D'Addario Chrome (flatwounds obviousley)

The Pictures do not do this bass justice though. The Sunburst is amazing in person and the neck is darker in person and looks beautiful. Now heres some flaws i found with this:
Quite a bit of neck dive but manageable with a decent strap (i use i pretty basic ernie ball strap that does the trick)
Fret Buzz across all strings on the 7th fret and 5th fret on the B string, and the fret buzz is unbearable will need a proper setup.
and finally the B string doesnt fit all the way through the bridge because the thread by the ball end but it is tightly secured.

But these flaws are easily fixable with a trip to a good luthier (luckily i know one) and i will be making a trip to him soon.
But for the price on this you cant go wrong. Amazingly fast neck with a nice almost gloss vintage tint finish on the back, nice and small neck.
Im very happy with this bass it is very fun to play :D

OMG!!! That double skunk is hot! It also looks like those strings are wide-spaced, unlike all of my SX fivers (sixer too for that matter. If you could measure the spacing, I'd like to know what it is,

Oh yeah, congrats!

SX does not disappoint in the pictures or the price. One of these days when I need to grab a fiver, I'll need to remember SX.

I quite agree. I love the bar string tree they used. So much better than those "mushrooms" that came with my latest SX basses. And I have to admit that the small hole in the bridge for the B string seems to be the "standard" thing for SX these days. I had to drill out the B string hole on all mine so that various strings wouldn't get jammed on the thread.

I'd add that IMHO a new pickguard REALLY tweaks out the look of an SX. It's a little bit of money (you have to get a custom shop to duplicate the old one as they all seem to be slightly different ("handmade" you know!). But the plain white and black ones seem so "cheap" looking to me. And for a burst I think a new Tort guard gives the old SX that "money" look! In fact that reminds me I have to order a new tort guard for the last SX 6er I bought...

And also for my personal taste I always like to add the series/parallel switch mod for more tonal variation. I just buy a StewMac push-pull volume control and wire like the Fender Series/parallel mod diagram.

It looks like the misaligned 5 string, string to pickup thing has been resolved :hyper:

I might be interested in trading my stock, first run, SX 6 for a SX 5er
with anybody.

I'm just sayin'
