NBD! Troy Sanders Sig P Bass

i've been wanting to get a new bass for a while now, and i always intended it to be nicer than the bass i have at the moment (Indonesian Spector Legend 4 with EMG upgrades). not to outright replace it mind you, i still love that workhorse, but i guess i wanted something a little more upmarket or with more flair. and after getting a new job, i finally managed to save up for one.

now, originally i wanted a warwick, and was willing to settle for a rockbass instead of saving up for a proper german made one. even made a thread on here asking for people's opinion on the different models of the rockbass line. however, before i could pull the trigger on any of them, stock pretty much disappeared in both local and national stores. and then i learned about fender's new sig bass.

now it didn't take much for GAS to kick in. i am a huge heavy metal fan, and naturally a mastodon fan and troy sanders is a huge inspiration on how i play and how i try to write basslines. i was weary, however, since i am well aware of fender's QC lately, especially out of the Mexico factory, but thankfully, i had time while sorting some important things in Melbourne to swing by a local store and play it. pretty much fell in love immediately.

anyways, didn't intend on this to turn into a writing exercise lmao. long story short, worked my butt off and, with some help from my lovely fiance, got myself a nice present. i can already tell i'm going to gig the hell out of this thing

Wow that’s nice! Didn’t know it existed.

I’d sand the name off back of the headstock, make sure the shielding is robust, and rock it hard.

Is it made in Mexico? The Fender MIM signature basses - any Fender sig basses - I’ve tried have all been awesome.

from the research i've done, yeah it seems to be MIM. also, ngl, the ugly, blocky name has kinda grown on me, simply because i find it funny how out of place it is (also, i don't trust myself around a sander ) i will definitely check out the shielding though!

I like the look and feel of this bass, but I'm not sure about the pre-amp or pick ups, in active I have the volume up to almost 10 and vs. any of my other basses, passive or active @ almost 10 would be too loud with the same amp settings. Then in passive mode, no tone control. Is this the same on yours or is there something wrong with mine?

It's a loud bass for sure, and I think that's due to the 18v preamp rather than the pickups. I personally don't mind it, but I can see how it can be too hot for some uses. I don't play with the passive mode much, but i don't think it has a tone control, no.
