It's one of those clueless situations. I never had a EB over 34 when I got it. I bought it off craigslist in San Diego. I thought it was 35 inch scale - really should have knownm when I was playing it with a 34 fretless bass until 4 months later I decided to buy strings and the D'Addarios were too short. Previous owner tells me, you need super or extra long scale. I felt so dumb. I got used to it in a couple days, It is 36 inch scale with a 19mm spacing. But I play upright so I guess I am always use to stretching my hands and this one had a low action. But I do not fly on it, let us just say that.

Its a rare find of a bass for the US. Im sure it sounds great.

I wondered if it was this company, we had some of their basses here in Italy some year ago. He said the company was wiped out by the '95 Japan earthquake but I think the kept on... If it's the same company. Couldn't find much info

Besides, I think it's the bass he played in the Come Hell Or High Water live album since the period

Always hoping to find a rare Tune 5 string with tight string spacing....

The original 1980's-early 90's Japanese Tune Bass Maniac 5s had 16.5-17mm spacing, I have a lefty one so that's what you need to fish for. They come up on Yahoo auctions sometimes as there are a few older Japanese ones still around

First 3 are Japanese, slanted bridge & neck joint, 24 frets, last 2 likely Korean, straight bridge & neck joint, 25 frets. Korean 5s had the wider spacing of 18mm as the 5 here

Both my TWBs have 18mm and they are MIJ. That Last TBC fretless is MIJ also I believe, (they use ebony fingerboards, nice ebony). I almost pulled the trigger on that one.

The 6's I were seeing were also kind heavy. I really do love the preamp and pickups on these, SO warm and articulate, Both recording and live they work out so well.

The Bass Maniac caught my eye around 1984 , UK dealers and distributors were bringing all sorts of wonderful Japanese instruments to the marketplace.

This particular fretless was my object of desire

Many basses passed through my hands but thoughts of fretless Maniacs were never far from my mind.

The wait was well worth it

They are kind of addicting in a weird way, I have seen those models, overall they have a very unique design. I have my eye on this thing, its a TUNE Phoenix model neck through 33 inch scale.
