Is 1984 old enough to be considered vintage now?(that makes me vintage too, then!:crying:)

SB-2, walked into GC not expecting to buy and I and had to have it. Someone had it on layaway and decided not to get it.

Bit heavy but sounds great, needs to get setup and maybe some new strings (TI flats?)

Have to conserve space in our new smaller apartment, no more having 3 or 4 basses, so I need one bass that was versatile, this does the job.

OW!!!!

OW!!!!

OW!!!!

That was the result of my right foot reflexively kicking me in the rear for ever getting rid of my SB-1. Every time I see a G&L-related thread, this happens, like Pavlov's dogs. My departed G&L had the same headstock, too. Makes it hurt even more, but...I'll get over it. :smug:

IPA: I cannot tell; is the body black or a really dark blue?? And roughly how much did it set you back?

It's black, solid black! Looks great with the black anodized hardware. Also matches my black n maple telecaster and black and maple jackson. I guess I have a bit of a theme going. I will get better pics w/a real camera soon.

It was ~$600 w/a very nice hard case. I usually have a pretty good grasp of what used guitars are worth but I have never seen another one of these in person, so that's worth a little bit more to me.

Funny, my black '83 SB-2 also came surprisingly from GC a few years back. It remains in my top 3, which is to say it's not going anywhere any time soon. Plays and sounds absolutely fantastic and the neck has been super stable. Congrats on a fortunate find (and your price was very good imo).

Took some time to set it up and clean it. Setting up the action was a lot easier once I found that set-screw on the side of the bridge!

Wiped the body down with a little rubbing alcohol, rag came off brown. I don't think this bass has ever been cleaned. It even had that 'old' smell.

Now with some lower action it's a breeze to play. Truss was a little stiff but adjusted just fine. It still needs fresh strings but I think it would be a waste to hide these punchy, clear pickups under flats. Thinking about maybe some DR sunbeams.
