NBD: Warmoth Jaguar Bass!

i hate to spoil the party but i can't see how that bas could get an EBO/EB3 tone with a dimarzio humbucker in the neck position. IME, the dimarzio doesn't sound anything like a gibson mudbucker.

no offense, but the overall look ( choice of pickups and number of them) doesn't do it for me at all.

Sound clips!

all clips, except the first one, have the tone cut off and the tone knob at 100%. as far as how it's recorded, I went direct into AmpliTube 3 and bypassed all amps, cabs, and effects. this is the bass recorded direct. no coloration by the amps, cabs, "room" that it's recorded in, or special EQ'ing going on. just straight pickups being heard here.

Model 1 - solo'd with tone cut on and off

Model 1 and P-Pickup

P-Pickup solo'd

P-Pickup and X2N-7 (playing with the coil splitting)

X2N-7 (series, single coil, parallel)

X2N-7 and Model 1 (playing with the coil splitting, as well)

All 3

Essen, bassguppy nailed it.

Kamikaze, I think when it's all said and added up, around $1400-$1500 total. absolutely amazing considering a Fender MIA Deluxe costs about the same

johnk 10, it may not get EXACTLY spot on for the EB-0 tone, but it's pretty close. it's got a little more mids and treble than the standard EB-0 mudbucker for the punch, but it's pretty close, tonally. at least that's what my ears say. you can take a listen for yourself. and none taken, I absolutely love the bass, and it's got what exactly I want/need out of an instrument. the only thing I would have changed is a contoured heel. but even that's not a major thing. very very minor, in fact. the three pickups thing was done more for versatility rather than looks. I'm a function over form kind of guy.

selowitch, I chose it because, as he pointed out, Line6Man wouldn't stop harassing me about getting a raw neck. I'm totally glad he did! hah. I was wanting a maple neck for the bright, articulate tone, and because I don't like the looks of a darker neck. I heard somewhere that Canary had a tone similar to maple, and it was a light colored neck, so I was sold. I'm really pleased with it. I just can't get over how thick it is, too! it makes a Fender P-Bass neck feel like a Jazz! totally that baseball bat type neck I was looking for!

xjeremiahx, you're too kind. thank you very much. I got a big ole grin from that. :D

just put it on the bathroom scale, and it weighs a hair under 10lbs, btw. nice and weighty without killing my back. the tone is pure thunder when played live. sustain and low end for days!

This is a beaut! I love the finish--orange is my favorite color, so that does it for me. And the canary neck and the black HW--yeah.

Plus, an X2N for a bass pickup? Wouldn'ta thought of that one. I know that there are plenty of crossovers (Steinberger, etc.) but just wouldn'ta thunk it. I probably woulda gone Jazz for the bridge, but that's just me.

Great project.

it pretty much came out of wanting a guitar pickup in the bridge to get a more clear, guitar like sound out of it. I figured individual pole pieces wouldn't work since 6 small ones don't line up with 4 large strings. after some more looking on DiMarzio's site, I saw the X2N had all blades, and then I saw a seven string version of it, and that was that. it gets something close to an MM tone, imo. just a bit less treble, except when in single coil mode. either way, pretty neat thing.
