NBD-WARNING! Boring Fender Content

Yup. Sold some guitar inventory and in zombie-like fashion went to GC. Wanted a fretless and found one, wanted a few other things & accessories and found them. It got kinda expensive...I spent over $1000.00, but I think I did o.k.

I know the rules. Here's some pics.

This used Jazz had a white PG on it mounted with battleship hull screws. I took it off. Realized it was a Jaco-repro before the PG.

The finish was pretty clean, except the screw holes. Since it's an exploratory model for me, I am not too picky. It was less than half what they retail for.

The neck is very nice. The tone is O.K. It has a bit of phasey kinda liquidy. I'm gonna try some slightly heavier strings & see if that helps.

I had to back order the other itmes and finally got the call. The GC guys were very nice and even threw a few extras including this box:

I wanted rosewood and in spite of the fact that Fender's Precision V page was a bunch of confusion the last few months, they wouldn't give me entirely what I wanted. I liked the other colors but, I was also thinking about having to bring an instrument to myriad playing situtations. So I picked Black. It ain't so bad.

Haven't even played it yet. I'll review it over the next few days. Really I am stoked. I love getting 'em new outta the box!

Thanks. I have run the 5'er rack there & elsewhere several times to make sure. Kept coming back to the simplicity and ease of tone the Precision had. Loved the looks of the Stingray, Big Al, and really wanted one. G & L's were o.k., but besides being a stooge of the corporate interests (or so a FB person said of me today), I am a shallow person as well and could not come to like their asthetics.

After playing it for a few minutes through a practice amp-in between putting the tags & receipts into storage, I must say the neck-thru-body vibe is incredible. Fender has also forsaken the Strap-locks, as this bass has wide spaced pegs instead. I will probably switch those on my 2002 to this type too. I like these much better. The fit & finish is very good. The neck feel is smooth and easy to move about on.

I'll run it through the rig on Wednesday. I'll find out if I need another cab as well...though I did ask Don @ LDS about this long before I bought the fiver & he said the 2 x 10's will be just fine.

Very cool Aaron, I haven't played a bad P5, that bass is a home run for Fender. As far as the frettless, try some good nickel rounds like the Sadowsky Blues or D'addarios. Steel strings will chew up the fret board.
