NBD! (WARNING: Tom Petty content...)

He also played Hofner basses. When I last saw Mudcrutch he was playing a Hofner Club.
Agreed! We saw Mudcrutch during their first tour a few years back - great show! Upon reviewing videos on YouTube, it was in 2008, and YES, he played his Hofner Club for that show.

What I remembered were the song videos where he was playing a Ric. Now that I look again, Tom was playing one of the Fireglo models with the reverse headstock, toaster, and probably had the horseshoe pickup as well (it was not a stock 4004S, which was reissued years later in 2015.) You can see the bass here:

BTW, I didn't guess Hofner as @biguglyman already has a Hofner violin bass that he play in his Beatles band.;)

UPDATE: Put a set of LaBella LTF's on it just now. Strung through the bridge, not the body. Tuned up nice, felt nice, sounds just like I hoped it would. Needed a little tweak to the intonation on the G and B strings. I'll let it settle for a few days, maybe a week, then finish tweaking. So far I'm loving it.

The finish is stunning. I love that burst and the roasted neck.

OK, time for the big reveal. Apologies to those who were expecting Rick content. I don't believe I'll ever own one as the few I've tried were not comfortable for me. This is a case of "I want a precision" and "I want a 5 string" combined with an "accountant" (wife) who keeps my uncontrollable urges in check. Being "retired" now (cue loud old man voice) "I'M ON A FIXED INCOME". So, what was the answer? Sire! Marcus Miller P5R in tobacco sunburst.

I must say I'm impressed by the build quality and the pre-shipping setup by Sweetwater. I'm going to immediately throw a set of LaBella LTF's on it and tweek to taste. Love the feel of the rolled edges on the roasted maple neck that looks as if it might qualify as quartersawn. While I've had good luck with the Squiers I own, this caught my eye as a good bang-for-the-buck option. My main player is a mid 90's Carvin LB75 purchased for me by said accountant before we were even engaged. I bought a G&L L2500 tribute a couple years ago as a backup and put flats on that initially, but it sounds so good with rounds I couldn't leave it like that. I use those two in my rubbedinthedirtclassicrock cover band. I also play with some blues guys and that's where I've been using my 4 stringed FSO's with flats. I've run into some songs now where the 5 string option, while not necessary, would still sound good and the widening of the range of my bass voices leads me to this. More info after I change the strings and test drive it some more. So far, I'm very happy. :D:bassist:

PS- The little guy in blue jammies is my assistant and part of my retirement "job".

Nice bass, sir, I mean "sire"! :hyper:

Congrats! I bought one with Rosewood fretboard last week, and soon he will meet my Lollar P 5 strings pickup :D:D

I’m in CO…have the same axe you just got. Since it was packed in only cardboard (no bag) and it was sitting in warm reception room for about three hours before I picked up, I didn’t think about it and just cracked it open. Plus, I didn’t see the warning sticker. It felt very close to room temp out of the box.
