Congratulations on your two new beauties, OP! I have a '60s AO Precision Bass, and it sounds absolutely great with flats and foam under the bridge ashtray. My only complaint is the lack of visibility of the side dots on a dark stage, which I view as a significant problem. I'm sure it's fixable, though. All in all, I'm a fan of the AO line!

Sonic Blue AO Series. Finish is wearing quickly though! Luckily for me I am fond of my bass looking like it is actually played. In these photos I had put the chrome guards on just to see what it looked like as I never have them on at all.

I sold all my other basses and purchased these 2. You can't beat the classics!

I've actually had them for a few weeks, but now they are both fine-tuned machines with the desired strings, setup, etc.

Got the P as a Demo from SW for about 1600, and the Jazz locally for 1400 (!!), so great deals on both and made about 600 selling my other stuff in the process.

Both under 9 lbs, lush, dark rosewood... perfect in every way possible. Chromes on the P, TIs on the J, both setup crazy low with the 9.5 radius. Amazing. What more can you say?

Beautiful basses. Curious what were deciding factors in choosing AO over Am Pro II?

I very much like the Surf Green version of the P-bass.
The AO ‘60s series colours were seemingly a little more exciting than those of the new AVRI II line.
My LPB AO ‘60s P with TI flats and a Klein Epic ‘62 pickup does sound almost as Paul Jackson’s P-bass on the album Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock …

I’d like to post a link to a sample tune I recorded some time ago with it (in that case, however, the bass was sporting LaBella DTF 760FL flatwound strings);

Back to the ‘70s ..

I've got the Epic '62's in my AVRI and just love them. I would have kept the stock pickups but the raised poles bugged me a little too much. They sounded very good though.

My only mild criticism of my surf green AO P-bass is that I think Fender missed a trick by not pairing it with a mint pickguard. I eventually swapped the guard on mine and love it - mint green just seems a bit more… 60s to me. Great bass nonetheless.

Very nice! The sonic blue is my fav. If I see a good deal I’m going to change up my sunburst for it.

I just prefer vintage style over the more modern am pro ii. They are nice too though!
