Probably nothing real exciting for most of you, but I'll put my thoughts out there anyway.
I have been in search of a low-end 5-string to help with an 80's tribute band I've started and spotted a Yamaha BB405 (no case) for $220 on Craigslist. The natural finish was scuffed here and there and there were 2 noticeable dings near the bridge pup. The action was high but the neck was nice and straight. At face value maybe not a great deal (I felt it was fair obviously), but since I read several positive reviews about the sound and I liked the feel - I pulled the trigger. Included with deal was a new pack of LoRiders(MH5).
Got the bass home and adjusted the string height to a very low position. Tuned it up with and expectation that I’d have some buzzing but there was none. So the setup was just how I like my basses: nice and low. So I plugged it into my rig, Sansamp DI - Peavey Firebass 700 - Genz Benz 210 XB2 cab.
The sansamp settings were at noon and the Firebass was set flat.
The tone was and warm and there was no hum with either pup soloed. The B string seemed a bit floppy but I am really a 4 stringer so no surprise there. Overall there were a variety of tones available and I still have to spend a lot more time with it but I really like this bass.

I might end up repairing the nicks and dents and painting this guy (after reading the ‘Rattle Can’ threads). I have a set of Ken Smith Rock Masters (40-120) I am going to put on and see whether I prefer a 120 B string as opposed to a 130 gauge. Attached is a pic.
