NBD: Yamaha BB424x Brand New/Mint!

This is my second one of these in the last month. I grabbed a black one after selling some cabs to GC and then saw this white one on Facebook Marketplace. It is literally brand new, not a single scratch to be found. I consider this a unicorn for this model because of the condition.

Playability is amazing as expected, great fretwork with super low action. I threw some Labella flats on it last night, so the other one will have rounds.

I am literally blown away at the quality of this thing. I don’t know how Yamaha does it, but they seem to blow away every other production manufacturer on the market when it comes to consistency, fit, and finish and overall reliability. Absolutely incredible instruments.

One of the nice sounding PJ bass. Prefer how she sound over the Sadowsky ME PJ bass and Fender Am Performer PJ.

I purchased a new Metroline and the fit/finish is just as good…no exaggeration. I just don’t understand, haha! I’m just blown away.

She’s definitely heavier than the black 424x I have but sounds and plays so well.

These are by far more comfortable to my hands, than a P bass. The tone is fantastic with various amp/sim settings.

I suggest anybody that has a chance to get one of these to do so.

Makes me think of when I had to shop to replace stolen bass back in the 80s; the choice came down to a BB3000 vs the G&L L-1000 that I eventually bought. I still have the G&L but I still sometimes wonder if I made the best choice.

True. But if you've kept that L-1000 that long, it's really served you well!

Yamaha smartly made the decision to go to standard Fender routs for the current generation BB's, but somehow they lost the visual signature of the pickup surrounds, of which this gen BB were the last to feature them.

Yes, I have to agree with you there. I much prefer the aesthetics of the older versions.

I know that not all BBs have been PJs, but the quality of the J pickup on the 424 has a very strong BB flavor that the current models lack.

I had a 424, and the it had been set up with the pickup heights not even, so that in the middle position the J was slightly dominant. I thought it sounded wonderful (especially with the GHS Boomers) — vibrant and full.

And markB, I've come to live with it after seeing so many of the older ones hacked up to fit 'standard' pickups: It's gotten hard to find them 'original and unmodified'.

Yamaha and Ibanez make great instruments with awesome QC and aren't overpriced!!
