NBD: Yamaha BB735a replacement bass

So my wife bought be a brand new BB434 for my birthday last year, got it set up and loved it. Went to try new strings and a different setup, but found that the truss rod wouldn't loosen! So contacted Yamaha and they said it would be September before they could send a replacement. But they said they'd send the next model up because of the wait. Well I didn't turn up my nose at that, so I sent it in and started waiting for my 734a.

Well the other day UPS pulls up my long driveway and jumps out with a big box that I wasn't expecting. Sure enough "YAMAHA" was on the side. I pulled that puppy out and it was a 735a! So not a 4, but a fiver. Again, I decided not to turn up my nose, but did let them know of the error (they said keep it).
Now I have my first five string. Been playing 25 years, and this is a super interesting twist! Sounds great and feels great: can't go wrong with that.

Lol! That's actually really awesome customer service. Right now I'm in the mindset where I would send it back :roflmao::laugh:. I turn my nose up at >4, but truthfully, my bands have been playing in drop tunings a lot more recently and combined with 25 years of 4 strings, I imagine it would be refreshing. I actually was considering having the nut replaced on one of my 4s to accommodate lower strings (for BEAD and such). Real nice bass!

Ya, at first I was like, "I don't like playing 5ers" and then i thought it about some more. At church they're always taking perfectly reasonable keys like G and E and going with C or D. And I never really played a 5 except for long enough to keep hitting the wrong notes and give up. So I stuck with it.
Oh, they also said a 734a wouldn't be available until December. So... 735!

As you may have noticed, I’ve lurked in the BB forum for months, and you were the first to reply (with a thorough and enthusiastic YES) when I asked about whether this particular model would make sense for me. I did notice this when you first posted it, but didn’t remember that when I started looking for one of these for myself! While it’s disheartening to see that the supply chain issues had already hit when you started this thread, it’s heartening to see that you remain so happy with your happy accident  (stumbled upon this while figuring out what to offer now that the stars might finally be aligning for me )
