NBD, yard sale Fender

I saw that thread about 10 days ago
Except for my one big toe that got crushed and nearly lost in a hydrollic truck lift incident 13 years ago, I've always had 'chick feet' ... hopefully that lessens the pain for some viewers.
And while i haven't figured out the painted of furry leopard thing yet, here's some purple bases I've seen around here that really tickle my fancy >

Awesome find! And whomever put the strings on knew what they were doing! Congratulations!Drummer from our last band texted me a photo of this MIM Fender Jazz about a month ago. It was spotted at somebody's yardsale closer to Tacoma with a $200 asking price, and he asked if I was interested.
Though I'm not a fan of buying a bass I can't hold first, I told him if it looked well maintained and the neck was straight that I'd take it. Aside from my cheap starter Yamaha P/J, i really only have my beloved Spector to gig with, and it's different enough from what I have that it might inspire differently, and worse case is I move it along if I don't bond with it after some time.
Due to recent circumstances, there was a gap in time before he was able to meet me just a few days ago to make the exchange over lunch.
It was definitely well maintained. It didn't appear to have much playtime on it, but the original owner did put some GHS Bass Boomers on there, and some of the pickup poles and screws apear to have a little bit of rust on them. Serial number dates it as a 1995-96, and to my pleasant surprise it also came with that nice wide strap, the stand it's on, and a snug unblemished Roadrunner hard case that has about a dozen Dunlop 2.0 plectrums that i like inside.

I haven't given it too much playtime since getting it home, nor have I checked it for the infamous dead spot(s) that isn't really a thing with my Spector.
I played it long enough to know that the string spacing is a bit wider than I'm used to, the fingerboard definitely has more of a radius to it, and it did have a tiny bit of hiss running into the amp thru my somewhat large pedalboard unless I rolled the tone way down on the bass and amp.
That was a few days ago, and i kinda just left it on the stand while the Spector went off to practice and I had some other projects going including rearranging and rewiring the board >

I'll give it another plug in today thru the newest board configuration as well as straight into the Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 and try it with the V4B at the prax space soon.
One thing thats gonna be a problem for me personally (and I knew this as soon as i saw the first picture) is that I'm not at all a fan of the colouror how Fender leaves the headstock unpainted so the carpet doesn't match the drapes... that has always annoyed me (even if I liked the body color), although it would be less bothersome if the fingerboard were maple instead of rosewood.
If I'm gonna keep it I'll either be eventually joining the Purple Bass Club here

Those purple burst finishes are awesome!
I like the aged white look, personally.
If it were my bass, I'd find a leopard print pick guard and roll with that.

I love the color. It’s got a great vintage vibe to it. Clean it up. Set it up to your liking and install your preferred strings.
If it doesn’t grow on you sell it to someone that can appreciate it.
The great thing about Fender P and J basses is the can be upgraded in so many ways to suit you (as long as you like the feel/profile of the neck.

The color will grow on ya. May I suggest a special pickguard? Purple or something feline like? Then a special strap. Jazz basses are fun!
Congrats on a great catch and sweet bass! Love the color and headstock though if you prefer purple or leopard have at it! My favorite mod would be to add a push-pull series / parallel switch which might give some sounds closer to the Spector and ignite some inner flames of inspiration. As others have said, looks like in that era you've got two bridge pups, but I'd try the series switch before investing in new pups. With a 7.25 radius (per Fender) the action is usually set a little higher which would avoid the fret-buzzing though many of the premier Jazz players have incorporated some fret noise into their sound. Good luck and hope you bond with it - if not, I'd be interested in it as-is since I'm not a member of the purple or leopard clubs and love a nice cream Jazz bass with a rosewood board. Enjoy and play in good health!

I've actually painted doors, ceilings, and even a rowboat in a leopard pattern that all came out looking pretty swell (tho technically they were all snow leopard with the black white and gray.)
I know there's a Rattle Can Refin Club here, a DIY pickgaurd has to be considerably easier once you know how to draw the spots, and i do. I'll just have to do a little research on type of paint and coat. Thanks dude

You can import whatever leopard print you want, size the skin to cover the pickguard, and you're set... application was super easy, with patience and an Xacto knife.
I say wrap the whole freakin' body, it will preserve the white for when/if it comes time to sell.

A little redecorating on the pickguard and or body, perhaps a pickup upgrade (same size pickups on that model) and change the knobs and you will have a fantastic player!
