NBD, yard sale Fender

What a great buy! My 67 floor model Jazz Bass was $300 on sale in 1968 and my local music store that is NOT a Fender dealer had a MIM Jazz Bass in perfect condition for $450. It left the store before I could get in though the owner said he had it on the wall for 8 mo and got interest until the guy that bought and I expressed interest. He assumed that people ignored it because the price was so low. Saw a really nice Jazz Bass with case 2 years ago at a pre owned gjuitar store in Door County, WIS

It's just an entry level RBX-170, but that dang think NEVER goes out of tune! Since it's my first I doubt I'll ever sell it. Makes a fine travel bass too. I did a little customizing with the cat pawprint fretboard dot covers plus a white sticker on the black body that says 'Purr More/Hiss Less' (words to live by >^..^> )

Great find! I have a 1998 mim jazz bass I also bought for $200 (though back in the early 2000s) that I think is like this (two pickups with the same length and strat style knobs). I found the pickups pretty bad because they didn’t hum cancel. I put Bertolini pickups in (they sell the same size) and jazz style knobs and it plays pretty well now. Have fun!

Aside from my cheap starter Yamaha P/J, i really only have my beloved Spector to gig with, and it's different enough from what I have that it might inspire differently, and worse case is I move it along if I don't bond with it after some time.

Due to recent circumstances, there was a gap in time before he was able to meet me just a few days ago to make the exchange over lunch.

It was definitely well maintained. It didn't appear to have much playtime on it, but the original owner did put some GHS Bass Boomers on there, and some of the pickup poles and screws apear to have a little bit of rust on them. Serial number dates it as a 1995-96, and to my pleasant surprise it also came with that nice wide strap, the stand it's on, and a snug unblemished Roadrunner hard case that has about a dozen Dunlop 2.0 plectrums that i like inside.

One thing thats gonna be a problem for me personally (and I knew this as soon as i saw the first picture) is that I'm not at all a fan of the colour :vomit: or how Fender leaves the headstock unpainted so the carpet doesn't match the drapes... that has always annoyed me (even if I liked the body color), although it would be less bothersome if the fingerboard were maple instead of rosewood.

If I'm gonna keep it I'll either be eventually joining the Purple Bass Club here :rolleyes: or maybe starting a new one called the Leopard Print Bass Club >^..^<

Dang, dude. Awesome deal! I'm not looking for another bass, but I'd have a hard time passing that up. Congrats!

Killer Deal. Alot of companies do make a matching size pick up set for the early MiM Fenders. The rosewood fretboard is a gorgeous example. I personally think seeing as to how Fender is moving away form Rosewood, that those necks will be worth something in another couple of decades.

I haven't given it too much playtime since getting it home, nor have I checked it for the infamous dead spot(s) that isn't really a thing with my Spector.

I played it long enough to know that the string spacing is a bit wider than I'm used to, the fingerboard definitely has more of a radius to it, and it did have a tiny bit of hiss running into the amp thru my somewhat large pedalboard unless I rolled the tone way down on the bass and amp.

That was a few days ago, and i kinda just left it on the stand while the Spector went off to practice and I had some other projects going including rearranging and rewiring the board >

I'll give it another plug in today thru the newest board configuration as well as straight into the Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 and try it with the V4B at the prax space soon.

The Olympic White jazz basses are the best sounding. I was a Fender dealer for about the 20 years And I cannot explain why, but it’s the truth.

If you hear the hiss without the pedal board I would put some copper foil in the cavities. It’s not hard and you just have to not let the job scare you off. I did it to my 08’ MIA jazz. It wasn’t really noisy I just wanted to get the noise as low as possible. It did make it dead quiet but it was nearly dead quiet before.
