Double Bass NBD...

I just wanted to tell you that I have a new bass and that I am a f*****g idiot.

I`ve only had basses that could be strung in a way that you don`t need to keep tension on the top. Well, this one is not that kind and the soundpost fell. I tried everything but soon realized that it`s completely beyond my skill set and tools, that I made from a coat hanger and such.

I have to wait till monday with a fully carved Gewa Concerto standing alone in the corner, naked, unplayed, cold.

The Evah mediums it came with ain`t my cup of tea.

If it were playable it would have a deep and dark, beautiful tone. Very easy to get some sounds out with the bow. Loud when plucked.

Needless to say, now I know better.

My fingers, soul and brain hurts.

I`m going back to the bedroom, staring at it until my eyes bleed.

I´ll post you some pictures when it`s the time.

Thank you, Reiska

What basses are those? Some plys, I suppose-- or those with soundposts fitted too tightly. I've had the post on mine stay in place with no tension when it's been lying on my luthier's bench but, as you found out, it's not a good bet if you're not a pro. Sorry to hear of your troubles. :)

One ply, two hybrids, never happened before even when I`ve been messing with each of those a lot. Bridges, strings and all kinds of stuff. Ply is a piece of crap, Another hybrid has great tone but sunken top and there`s nothing in the sound of another one that calls for soundpost fitting. I`m no luthier or expert of any kind ( as you can read from the op ), and I was aware that this stuff happens and I was way too impatient with my new bass ( as you can read from the op ) :)
