Finally found one of these, and now it is finally in my practice room! All it needs now is a new white pearl pickguard and she'll be complete! The action is super low, and the sound is great. Just in time for a gig tomorrow night!!!

Anyway...I just had to share.

Beautiful!! I'm moving more to 5s myself lately, and this one is high on my list of basses I want to try.

How are you liking the 35" scale, and how does the spacing near the nut feel compared to your Fender?

edit: A subsequent post of mine turned into an inadvertent thread hijack. Deleting my part of that. Apologies.

I've been playing 5's for about 10 years now and love them for a lot of settings. I mainly play at church right now, and the 5 just works really well for that setting. I'm also recording bass on a friend's album right now, and have really wanted a 5-string jazz-style bass for it. I pretty much go between active/passive and 4/5 strings as needed.

Honestly, the 35" scale is hardly noticeable. The string spacing feels similar to my Fender but obviously wider due to the 5th string. I actually prefer the feel of a 5-string neck. I have longer fingers, so the wideness doesn't bother me. That said, the tighter spacing on my Cort A5 definitely helps in certain situations, but I have a feeling me and this new bass will become best friends over the next couple months!

Also...this one weighs less than 9 lbs.

Nice bass, I love mine. Also play at church and this bass is just about perfect as far as I'm concerned.
The only thing is that I'll now need to start using my volume pedal for fade out situations. I usually use my volume knob with my Cort, but can't really do that with the standard jazz style preamp. No biggie, but will definitely be a new thing for me. I'm doing a worship service at another church tomorrow evening, and am SOOOO excited to be playing with a DJ5!

I'm playing a 35" 5 string after playing 34" basses for nearly 25 years. I have average sized hands and I haven't noticed any negatives. I'd say the thunder that comes from the Low B string on a 35er far outweighs any nearly imperceptible inconvenience of the longer scale. ymmv

Cool bass

and you are courageous to play a brand new bass to a gig, I wouldn't do that. It takes me a few days to get the hang of a nw bass.
I regularly switch between 4's and 5's, and wider vs tighter spacing. Usually takes about 5 mins to get used to it and I'm off to the races. The only question for tonight is do I take off the plastic protective sheet from the pickguard :-)

The action is so low on this one (in a good way), that I can't dig into the strings as much as I'm used to. So the B string was slapping a lot on the frets. That's about the only real thing I've had to get used to on this bass.
