NBD!!!

Finally found one of these, and now it is finally in my practice room! All it needs now is a new white pearl pickguard and she'll be complete! The action is super low, and the sound is great. Just in time for a gig tomorrow night!!!

Anyway...I just had to share.

Hey, Billy. This is Jarrod. Recognized you from your avatar.

Nice choice. I've always loved the look of these basses. Congrats on the NBD!

Gig report: Played at a small worship service tonight in a very live room (sound guy said the reverb was something like 3 seconds) with the DJ5 and GK MB212 combo. It absolutely KILLED! I wish the GK was a little warmer, but man these two are a growly mixture. Can't wait to play more with this setup!

Only thing I was running in front of the GK is a Line 6 M13 with a little compression and EQ.

The action is so low on this one (in a good way), that I can't dig into the strings as much as I'm used to. So the B string was slapping a lot on the frets. That's about the only real thing I've had to get used to on this bass.

Just raise the action at the saddles in small increments, like a 1/4 turn at a time until it suits you. Since your action is that low from the start, you may reduce the fret noise enough and still have very comfortable action.

Your new bass looks sweet!

I'm going to keep it as-is for now. It didn't bother me during the set last night. I might raise it a little bit if I start noticing issues playing live.

I did have to change some of my EQ settings for this bass. As others have said - this bass seems to have a little more upper mid presence (I believe) than my other jazz basses. Not bad in any way, just different. Some slight EQ tweaks and I had my sound easily.

I've gotta try one out someday, but I don't think I've ever seen a Lakland in a store anywhere. Did you purchase online?
Yes. I purchased it online from a store in the U.K. - Invalid Link Removed

They had two available and were kind enough to email me photos and weights of each. I was dealing primarily with a guy named Gary. They were extremely helpful and kind. It took us a while to work through which bass I wanted, but once it shipped it only took about 3-4 days to arrive.

Also, the day I received mine, this popped up (only 4 hours remaining!!!) LAKLAND SKYLINE SERIES 5 STRING BASS GUITAR | eBay

:rage:  :banghead:

Thanks for response. Waiting eagerly to find out how this works for you
They sent me 9 different templates (pdf documents that had to be printed on 8.5x11 paper) and instructed me to overlay my guard on them and choose the perfect match. If no matches existed, then to trace mine and send it to them. Mine matched perfectly with one of them, so now I guess they'll start making it based on their template. I'll definitely let you know how it works out.

Hey - my pickguard finally arrived! It took longer than anticipated, but it turned out absolutely PERFECT! Couldn't ask for better quality. Edges were elegantly finished. No shards or pieces sticking out. Screw holes all matched exactly. It hugs the bottom of the neck and pickups with great precision. Without further ado...
