View attachment 1047825 I'm thinking red pearloid pick guard...

Kind like the Squier ProTone's from the days of yore. ;)

If I may suggest an alternate possibility, there's this "DIY pickguard dying-trick" I applied to a Fender Blacktop Jazz and a parts-bass project of mine…one in red and another in blue. It's a bit more subtle than a full-on pickguard change, but I really surprised with the results, if I do say so myself. Also, it's way, waaaaay cheaper than a new guard. All it takes is a couple of easy-to-get supplies and a bit o' elbow grease.

Here are some "before & after" pics. If you like what you see, here's my brief tutorial on how I did it. ;)

Took bass to my guitar techs place last nite...had a few drinks n smokes and pulled it apart...p pickup is dead as it gets, but the wiring seemed strange to both he and I so we've decided to start from scratch...thinking on having Master volume, blend, and master tone as the setup...as well the nut seems to have a bit of excess space on the e string...I used 40-90 flats...specs said it came w/ 40-95 rounds...could this be a source of my somewhat floppy and tough to tune E string...
I'll be getting a new nut so perhaps I can address that then
Thanks for all the suggestions and well wishes...
Keep ya in the loop...

I like the subtle change on the black/red/black...very classy
That ProTone is the sorta look I'm goin for

Put an old p pickup in the jag last evening...I think it's a Duncan design from a pup switch tech did previously on another bass...
Man...the thump is huge...kept electronics stock for time being, but haven't ruled out fiddling with them
Ideal bedroom tone seems to be bridge rolled off 10% tone halfway up...I have jam tonite so I'll give it a true band setting run...
So far super happy with this bass and have yet to do any upgrades

All I can say is wow...
I was legit blown away by the tone of this lil firecracker at rehearsal tonite...a bit of EQing and I was off like a thoroughbred...all 3 band mates commented on deep warm thump that I was supplying...
So very happy with this bass...gonna concentrate on making it a little prettier short term..and do some research that will get me best bang for sonic buck long term...
