Yeah, I already messed with it

I even took a drill to the control cavity and made it bigger. G&L's QC guy to to be shot. Every hole except 2 in the pickguard are completely off center. With the control plate screwed in and set, 2 holes line up on the pickguard. Line up most of the other ones, and the guard sits off the top of the neck with a fat gap. I Jimmie in all back in place. And, the finish is chipped under the guard on the horn. Like, a solid nickel sized chip. But, whatever dude. She looks good, sounds good, and plays good. I'm most likely going to fix all that, but not at the moment.

But she’s still purdy! Even got a beauty mark! You can positively identify it... if that ever becomes necessary.

I guess? It's all good though. I got the set up sorted out. She plays good and sounds good. It just urrks me. I would've considered this a B stock. Know what I mean?

I do. And I have kept some mail ordered basses with little idiosyncracies myself if they played and sounded good, because, well you never know, the next one might not!

The shipping box made me wonder why I spend so much time double boxing a bass, already in a hard case, when I sell one. That’s the most worrisome aspect of that transaction, to me. Is that how G&L ships basses?

Loads of manufacturers do it that way, but usually they come from overseas in a larger box holding them together, or at least stacked on a pallet and wrapped. The amount they save in packaging cost and shipping weight from that packing cost overseas offsets the possibility of a damaged instrument.

Shipping used we can't tolerate the loss of one instrument, but if you and I were blasting out thousands of these off an assembly line at import wholesale, we wouldn't notice if 1 or two in 1000 got destroyed.

But its the perfectly molded internal foam holding the instrument firmly in place that does it, as long as the box doesn't get punctured or crushed the instrument usually makes it just fine

Makes sense. It’s just my limited exposure, I guess. Ive bought only Fender, Warwick, EBMM, Gibson on line, and they were always in hard cases, and double boxed. Also probably related to price-point. I was just surprised. I need to get out more.

Yeah Ive only ever seen it done with imports from Asia. Actually looking at the OP again I believe this one was shipped double boxed so it got the premium treatment, I've seen a lot of new instruments coming in just the angled internal box alone. They are useful to be recycled as an inner box, but I wouldn't use one for an outer box

man that is surprising! It still looks great though, I didn't even notice til the closeup, so if it sounds and plays great too still seems like a winner to me!
