NBD

Hey everyone. So I have been playing bass for about one month (playing guitar for 9). I sold my Squier Affinity bass I bought off my friend in December for money to get a halfstack for guitar. Now I am not in a band anymore and want to take up bass for this new band I am going to play in.

I am looking to get a good bass for pop-punk/alternative. Think Rise Against, Nirvana, Green Day, etc. I think I will be using my friend's amp (a 75 watt Peavey), however eventually i want to get the Ampeg BA115. I have tried it in my old band and it really is great. For bass, I was thinking about getting a Fender Standard P-Bass ( [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ). I just wanted to know your guy's thoughts and if you have tried it out before. I will have about $650 and will get Quarter Pounder's in it.

Thanks

With the right EQ setting any bass will cut through the mix just as any bass can get lost in the mix. Go to your local music store and play everything they have inside your price range and above it. Find out which neck profile you like best, passive/active, and which one that just seems to fit YOU better. Then come on here and find a used one in the classified section.

I've NEVER had a problem with my P getting lost in the mix. I love my J bass, but 9 times out of 10, the P bass goes to the gig with me.

The P your looking at is a great bass for the genres you described above. The quarter pound pickups are great for rock. Really snarly and will definitely help with a slightly more aggressive sound. Should be a solid setup.

Ha! Are you kidding me? A Jazz gets lost more easily than any Precision. Same with the SR.

I have 3 P basses and 4 jazz basses and all the p basses do not cut threw like the jazz basses. It may be my amp I don't know just telling you what I have found. Don't get me wrong the P bass sound great in the mix also but does not pop like the poster wanted. And please never question a supporting member...lol just teasing with ya :spit:
