My new fretless Blacktop Jazz!!!

I could not wait to post this. This is a dream come true for a truly rockin' fretless.
I put a MIM fretless neck on this body I got from Ebay. Added a vintage style bridge, some Schaller strap locks, and it's done!
I think this thing may be illegal in some countries. It belts out a serious P/fretless growl-mwah, gets me to shakin!
And it's light too which is like the icing on the cake for my back.
I was thinking about giving it a vintage looking ashtray bridge cover, but can not decide on a P or a J style.

Can't wait to jam with the guys! AWOOOOOOOO!

+1 on the no Ashtray... throws off the vibe IMHO. If you decide not to listen to us use a Jazz cover because of the jazz shaped body. Keep in mind: the shape of P bridge p'up may cause it to stick out and look awkward and you might find yourself wanting to playing over that sweet bridge p'up to get some unique fretless/double-P tones! There's a reason why Jaco took his off.

Got my chance jam with my garageband friend, this bass cuts just fine.
Looks like more folks voted for a p-bass ashtray. Wish I had one of each to test the look.

...I ended up putting a fretted neck on it.

I loved the way it sounded fretless, but there is just something about a Split P pickup and frets played with a pick.

So I found a guy on Craigslist selling a black 1992 MIM Jazz for $200.00. Came with a case and a tuner! The bass looked barely played. Took the neck off and put it on the Blacktop. Took the fretless neck and put it back on my other Jazz body. Will sell the '92 body on Evilbay.

Plays good, I'm happy I did it.

Happy 4th!!! Go blow something up lol.

I added a finger pull for a vintage look/feel. I like finger pulls mostly on a P-bass though.

Well I switched it back to a fretless.

This started as a fretless, but the sound was not cutting through like I wanted, so I switched it to fretted, but it sounded basically the same.
So then I switched to these Fender flats, the .050 - .100 set, and it gives this instrument the perfect voice. Now I am making it a fretless again so I may play it the way I intended.

...one more update.

I took the Precision neck I defretted

and screwed it onto this body.
Plays good, and I did not have to shim the neck like I did on the last body I screwed this onto which was a plus. The other cool thing I like is I now have a Precision neck with Precision PuPs!
