NCAA Bowl Season 2011

So much for people not being interested in this game.

According to everything I've seen, it was either the second or third lowest rated NCS game ever, but that is mostly down to it being on cable. Here's Link Removed. I fell asleep on my couch briefly during the second quarter, split at halftime, then saw a few plays of the second half on a big screen at a local open mike night. Meh.

Congrats to Alabama, they owned for sure.

I was very impressed by Alabama's defense last night, and their offense was pretty darn good. I frankly was disappointed in LSU - they were bad on both sides of the ball, although clearly better on defense.

That's not a general knock on LSU - any team can have a bad game, and it never takes much to lose to a really good team.

But on Monday, I think there were a number of teams that could have beaten LSU if they'd had the same bad game.

A poll taken by a newspaper in the NW showed that 65% of their readers would rather have seen Oklahoma State in the game than Alabama. I'm not convinced that OK State wouldn't have won. But 'Bama made the most of the opportunity, and hats off to them!

OK State has a terrrr-i-buhl (say this in Bill Walton's voice) defense. I expect a title game between them and Bama would have played out very much like UF against OU's offensive juggernaut three years ago (24-14 Gators).

LSU is reportedly stuck in New Orleans...

Someone drew a 50-yard line in front of the team bus.

Definitely affected the total ratings not being on network television. I don't doubt it was less appealing to many, but it certainly wasn't the "nobody is gonna watch this" game that some made it out to be.

I'm still surprised the BCS signed their contract with ESPN, since A. most SEC games are on NBC and B. basic channels reach more televisions than cable channels. Of course it's also a requirement to have cable or satellite if you have a Nielsen box so that would explain the high Nielsen ratings.

Who cares where it's being televised - boring is boring. Moving it to a major network wasn't going to make it a better game or improve the ratings. Plus the Bachelor was on ABC!! Much more exciting.

'Bama could have at least started to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking 10 field goals, or was it 5?

I'm sad to see him go, but it's expected, especially with the condition of his mom who has Lupus and his been raising his kids all this time while he's at school. That's been tough for all of them I've read, but this is the culmination of it all. He'll get a multi-million dollar contract, and the best part is that he'll move his mom and kids out of the projects, and be able to take care of them in high fashion, seeing them all the time and never wanting for anything ever again. It just has to be a ridiculously good feeling knowing all that is about to happen for him.

Seriously, though, as a tailback, don't you think he's much better off going early? Limited careers and all that.

Oh, for sure it's a good move. But I'm still sad to see him go. I far prefer the college game over the pros, so I'm bummed even when the guys who kick the Gators butts move on.

Be gone Trent Richardson. Now Lacy can kick our butts. :)
