No.
In fact, we desperately need to get rid of about half the bowl games - as well as upping the requirements to more like 8 wins over FBS opponents.
I mean - UCLA in a bowl with a 6-7 regular season record? Really?
Most schools (even the big rich ones) tend to break even to a slight loss for most bowl games.
y'know... all this "anti-SEC" whining that's going on regarding the BCS reminds me of the first several years after its creation, when folks started calling it the "Bowden Championship Series" because, no matter how they tweaked the numbers, adjusted/weighted things, FSU would consistently show up at #1 or #2...
I feel confident in saying that a) there are problems with the BCS, and b) a lot of folks are unhappy with it. That said, I don't see it going away any time soon, either....
I would prefer that you take the top 24 teams in [pick a ranking system, even if it's the existing BCS system] and square 'em off in double-elimination. By my reckoning, that'd give us another 5 or 6 weekends of college football, and I don't see any problem with that!

I've never understood why it bothers people so much that there are a lot of bowl games. I guess I don't see why it would somehow be better to have less college football to watch? It doesn't make the prestigious bowls less prestigious, does it, to have minor bowls?
One other thing about Alabama's and OSU's strength of schedule- If people use the "The expert's decided by voting" defense of Alabama, don't you have to use the same logic to say that the teams OSU beat were better than the teams Alabama beat, on the whole, since the voters are who ranked them?

Rewarding mediocrity as though it isn't mediocre is an insult to achievement.
No one has defend anything for Alabama for this -- it didn't appoint itself to the NCS game. The experts in fact voted it into being.
I guess. I doubt LSU even KNOWS, let alone feels diminished or insulted by, who is playing in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
That was for those of us who are still discussing the "why" of it. I think we all get the "how" lol.
Dude, let it go. At least you get an awesome game against Stanford. The only cool thing about the Insight Bowl is that Stoops played for Iowa.
lol It's an interesting discussion about the system and it's inconsistencies and I'm not the only person interested in it. I'm more interested in the fact that OSU has won a Big XII championship for the first time. A Nat'l Championship would have been fun but- baby steps. Gundy seems to be recruiting for real athletes at every position instead of just system skill guys so maybe they can sustain something for more than 1 year at a time. I'm definitely not worried about it, I just think it's interesting. When the system was working for the Big XII, it was "right". Now, it's all an SEC conspiracy, to hear the people around here. I don't know if you get a chance to listen to The Sports Animal online much but people have gone certifiably insane around here.

From what I've seen the discussion just seems to be the same arguments going back and forth. I think I've read enough about Iowa State and "Bama already lost, we'd have tied national champions if they won."
And I think Stoops may be the only one really excited about Iowa. A lot of the players seemed pretty burned out and are beating themselves up. Hopefully they can get out of their slump in the next few weeks.

Many schools actually lose money on bowl games - but that's just part of the story. Publicity and exposure constitute a huge benefit for the institution, although one which doesn't lend itself to an immediate calculation in money.
I see no reason there can't be a playoff after the bowl games. Personally, I'd like to see a series of three weekends with four games, two games, then a championship.
